Alaska’s Katmai National Park Bear Cam Live - 07/02/23 12:26 PM

For 12th year, the park's Bear cam is documenting the brown bears as they find the best salmon fishing spots in Brooks Falls. The “largest and most successful bears” can catch more than 30 salmon per day during the peak season in late June and July. You might also see bald eagles, lots of gulls, and maybe even the occasional wolf trying to partake in the buffet.

This is a still shot from the cam:

Probably nothing would happen. I have been to Brooks Falls in Katmai. Those bears are super focused on the salmon. You actually have people fishing downstream. When you get to the park it’s about a 1.2 mile walk through the woods to the viewing platform.you will probably be real close to a few bears along the way no big deal.

If you go to Alaska in the summer do the day flight to Brooks.it’s worth every penny they charge.

I have also been to Lake Clark National park photographing bears. We got within 50 foot of a number of them the guide was familiar with, Super cool experience.

This is a photo off my iPhone. I have a super cool iPhone video of the same two Bears, Crimp Ear and her second year cub at about 15 feet but don’t know how to upload it. Crimp is about a 550# sow. We saw boars about 750# plus.

I have fished for sockeye at that location. Every time you hook up the bears started coming until you had to break off your fly and back out. One of our guys had arterial problems in his legs and couldn't run. He was scared because we all said we just had to outrun old Gene.
