My Grandfather’s Voice

My Grandfather’s Voice - 05/31/23 03:05 PM

I spent almost every summer on my grandfather’s place in Cross Plains. 150 acres. It was a lot of work and a lot of fun. One of the things he taught me was to always be careful where you step. It’s probably why I walk and mostly look at the ground in front of me. I heard his voice again when I looked down after walking back from the trailer to throw debris into it from an old greenhouse I’m tearing down.

We kill them all the time here.
My neighbor killed the biggest one I've ever seen two weeks ago. It was the same diameter as a handball and around 20" long.
She also found three babies nearby.

I killed one in my garage last week.
I hate to kill them but a bite means hospital, so....

I don’t know where you live but I’m glad I’m never in that area.
