F150 chrome rims suck

2107 F150 Lariat SCrew with 34k miles (yes, I have a garage queen). Had to get new tires and the PVD chrome chipped on all 4 rims. Additionally, the lug nuts swelled and Discount Tire said they could not put those lug nuts back on because they would be unsafe. I had to buy a new set of better quality lug nuts ($150). For a truck of this age, low miles and cost, UNACCEPTABLE

That sucks. I have a 2012 with Chrome and have not had any issues whatsoever. I did have to change out lug nuts. They were around $90 when I changed mine.

Did it chip when they put it on the wheel machine? That's not a very common issue at all.

The stem swelled or the nuts? Or both?
The treatment is not the same.

found some decent priced black to replace the 5 spokes.

I paid far less for steel lug nuts.

You would think they could have fixed this problem by now with the lug nuts. I had a Ford truck that had this problem back in 1998. The lug nuts were steel with a chromed cover on them. Had to replace the lug nuts and the shop that removed them broke 3 bolts getting them off.

I got free replacement lug nuts from Discount Tire. The BIL of a guys working for me is a store manager. The Ford lug nuts with the thin covers over them are junk. Whoever engineered them should be throat punched.

It was the lug nuts that were swollen.
My son, who worked at DT for 5 years, said that moisture inside the tire causes corrosion of the cheap PVD spray-on chrome in side the rim. When the tires are popped off it often takes chrome with it. Only happens on PVD chromed wheels. Does not happen on real chrome.

Fourth set of tires and still using the OEM lug nuts. OEM TPMS sensors going strong too.

I did replace the serpentine belt today. It was an 8-groove that was 4 to 5 grooves wide in places. But it also was the original with 130,000 miles.

Probably the same one that engineered the spark plugs for the 5.4.

The last time I took our Fusion to Discount Tire for a tire rotation, they tried to tell me my lugs were bad and may be unsafe. I told them to put them back on the car.

it's an aluminum cap over the steel nut. they do it to be cheap.

It delaminates. Discount replace mine with some ugly nuts some time ago. The last time I went in they replaced those gratis with some nice new normal shiny nut.

They strip out, good luck if you have a flat

Many of many curse words have been said when dealing with Fords wheels on their trucks. Swollen lug nuts, finishing peeling / flaking off, etc.

Those tire change places must hate me.

Have had nant problem with lug nuts on my Tundra either.

On the locking lug nuts (I use them) make sure you have a cheater pipe if you have a flat. They tighten them with air wrench and a ratchet will not break them, too tight.

I had to call a tow truck to bring me a cheater pipe. I was a long way from home!

Average age of f150 guy is about 81 I would guess.
