Your favorite Dallas Cowboy ever

Your favorite Dallas Cowboy ever - 12/01/22 12:27 PM

After some thought, I have to go with Larry Allen, one of the best offensive lineman ever. He dominated completely.

Either Roger Staubach or Emmit Smith. Hard to pick just 1 for me.

Re: Your favorite Dallas Cowboy ever - 12/01/22 12:35 PM

Tough one. Partial to Roger Staubach because we went to the same church and he lived in my neighborhood. We played football across the street from his house in Prairie Creek Park. When he was outside we would try to get him to be our quarterback.

Bob Lilly, saw him signing autographs on a card table and the table was sitting on top of his knees, the legs were 8-12 inches off the floor. Him or Robert Newhouse, stopping him was like trying to tackle a bowling ball I once heard.

Roger Staubach and Bob Lilly are the two greatest Cowboys ever. Roger is my all-time favorite NFL player. I don't wear player jerseys, but if I had a vintage Staubach #12 I would wear it. He was not only the greatest but the classiest.

I believe that was Erik Williams who ruined his knee and was a surefire HOFamer. Michael Strahan said he was the toughest tackle he ever faced.

I have been reading through the list of players and was thinking. They have had a ton of great players I had forgotten about. I wonder why they don't have many more SB throughout their history. I know both Cowboy and Steeler teams in the 70's had great players and coaches but I always considered Tom a better coach then Chuck but I am sitting here reconsidering that thought. They both had great players at the time and great defenses

Not hard for me Walt Garrison. As we lived by him in Old Frisco when he stayed at the Phillip's Ranch. That is when he married Phillip's daughter who owned Tandy Corp. ( Radio Shack ).
We used to see him a lot at a little store/ bait house next to the ranch when we would get minnows to go fishing. He would alway offer to buy them and even give us a cold beer. A real down to earth man.

Too Tall was a super nice guy. Back when he played most of those guys had jobs during the off season. I was a buyer for Tom Thumb, and he was a sales rep for a company in the Merchandise Mart and called on me about every two months for a couple of lines I bought from his organization. He told me once at lunch that he had worked for Tom Thumb several years before and he told them he wanted no special treatment or some BS public relations job, so they had him working at the store on Lovers Lane and Greenville in Dallas. He gave that job up because he felt bad when the little old ladies would try to tip him for taking their groceries out to the car.

Golden Richards was another Cowboy that called on me at Tom Thumb, but he was just "eye candy" for the RCA distributor and would always be with a real salesman when they had an appointment. He would always wear these skin-tight jeans when he came in and every girl working in the purchasing dept found some reason to come into my office to ask me an important question.

Yes, Calvin Hill legendary, his swan dive over the middle for a TD. And Dorsett, the way he ran, was so cool... Pollard reminds me a lot of him.

A lot of great names mentioned in this thread, did not see Bill Bates, that guy had a motor that never stopped, he was in on every play. If the whistle was blown and dead, you would at least see him late flying over the pile.

My favorite Cowboy ever - Tony Dorsett.

10 years ago, Marcus Spears forced me to sit in his bathtub at his house in Frisco. It was like a super insulated tub with a commercial ice machine built into the master bathroom. I got the grand tour of his house that night. I was delivering his car that I built and he was seriously more excited about the bathtub. Kinda depressing for me, but every player has several cars…BUT ONLY ONE GIGANTIC BATHTUB.
