Pay real close attention around oaks this time of year. I stole from one of my bug / plant groups, but….

Asp caterpillar… southern flannel moth. I’ve gotten stung in the past… I put my hand on the railing and didn’t see him.

These little buggers are the reason why all Texans are scared of fuzzy caterpillars.

More than a big red wasp. Less than a cow killer.

Best description I can give is imagine getting stung by 6 really angry bees with the full dose of venom. But the pain is sharper and hotter.

They must die then.

Eh? Why? They don’t move around that much and they’re really cool looking. Just look before you grab or lean or sit. They’re not after you. It takes less than a second to check.

This is why!^^^^^

I should wait till they change into winged versions, then catch them and pull off their wings…then smush them.

You’re going to forgive me for rolling my eyes at you.

See this wasp nest? I don’t want to use the flash and startle them awake, but.

[Linked Image]

They’re on the top rung of this shelf.

[Linked Image]

I cleaned around them, moved the whole shelf, cleaned under where it was, and then put it back.

No problems.

I’ve been moving plants in and out of that door all day long.

No problems.

I want live predators in my greenhouse through the winter so I don’t have to worry about using pesticides.

Just because they are able to defend themselves doesn’t mean they can’t be neighbors.

Hell, I used that green leaf blower in the picture on that shelf because I can’t reach it and it needed cleaned off.

And you can see the green bottle with the yellow sprayer on the bottom shelf when that needs to happen. For now, I want them right where they are. grin

I had a nest by my front door that I was going to leave until one decided to sting me. It was gone after that!

It's just a bug. Leave it alone or sqush it.
