Lets talk work jeans / pants

Lets talk work jeans / pants - 10/19/22 10:51 PM

What brand is the best for someone that works in grease and other dirty environments - lots of climbing ladders, crawling in tight spots, bending over, kneeling, working around sharps edges, etc.

Just wondering what you guys that actually work in jeans or pants think is the best. Just looking for 3 things - 1. Comfort 2. Endurance 3. Functionality Price is not a factor.

Lets hear it.

Carhartt and DuluthTrading for reasonably priced, long lasting work pants. FIlson for price be damned, give me the best stuff.

If I have to be in pants for work, it's Cherokee scrub pants. Only wear them when I have to do assessments at hospitals or if I am giving a presentation or teaching a class...otherwise, I wear shorts and a t-shirt.

Wrangler Riggs Workwear. Shorts in the summer and pants in the winter. Comfortable and plenty of pockets. Been wearing them for several years and haven't had any wear out yet.

The most comfortable and durable denim I have found is Ariat. They're a little pricey around $100 per pair but they last and look good as well.

Several pairs of cheap wrangler cargo pants a year. Or Levi’s. They get to point where they are ragged, then I trash em.

My Dad wears these. We get him a new pair for Christmas each year. I’m trying to figure out how old I have to be to get my own ensemble

At any given point, I have 4 pairs of Levi’s 559 jeans in rotation. They’re really comfortable but they wear out quick. I work in some pretty nasty environments sometimes. If there’s a more comfortable or even equally comfortable pair of work jeans that will last longer, I’m interested in hearing about them.

Levi's for work, Wrangles when I need to dress somewhat nice.
I like the comfort of the Levi's when working.

I'm older but I liked rugged ridge pants back in the day.

Re: Lets talk work jeans / pants - 10/20/22 01:37 AM

I tried those Wrangler Riggs a few years ago. Didn't even make it a day. We were disassembling a roof top chiller and ripped the crotch out so bad, I had to go home and change at lunch. Won't ever buy those again.Even on the Amazon site for those jeans, someone else has a picture of a ripped up crotch area.

Cheapest, low grade Wrangler jeans at Walmart. They hold up pretty well, but I don't think they'd take more than one season of throwing hay bales. But I haven't had to do that in over 50 years, so there's that.

Tractor Supply has some house labels jeans that are really comfortable and tuff.

I prefer the Levi's 501 button fly jeans. These last me several seasons of yard work and going out and about.

Try the IZOD stertch jeans, they come in array of color.

Great for bending and flexing and hold up well to dirts and last a long time

Costco carries them from time to time for like $17 a pair, other places charge around $30

Dickies cargo duck pants are 9oz cotton duck material. They are thick enough to block most of the thorns in this s.texas brush. They are flexible and at the same time tuff as nails. And they are made in my hometown of uvalde Texas. In fact 3 of my aunt's use to work at the Dickies plant. Made in America flag
I buy them at Walmart 23$

They are, but I'd rather pay extra knowing I am supporting working Americans and not some evil company profiting off of slave labor in the far East.

Where does the cotton come from?

Re: Lets talk work jeans / pants - 10/20/22 02:45 PM

If you are climbing, crouching and crawling around - find a pair with a gusseted crotch and articulated knees. You will not believe the difference it makes.

Second to that is stretch fabric.

Costco has a pair of Orvis tech pants right now that are awesome. It is one of those styles made specifically for Costco, so don't look for it at Orvis. They are stretchy but not very breathable, so not the best for summer. And I have no idea about their durability, but for $18 a pair that's not really a concern.

From their website... "We exhaust all avenues to ensure all of our materials, fibers, and components are sourced in America, exceeding Berry Amendment Standards. If a component is made on American soil, WE USE IT."

Gravel Gear pants from Northern Tool are comfortable and durable.

I wear Wranglers. They hold up great considering all the chemicals I get on them. Acetone, thinner, paint, anything else.
