Thermostat

Thermostat - 07/14/22 01:31 AM

Did you change your thermostat per the ERCOT request? I did not on Monday but I did today and think I will going forward. It really was not that uncomfortable in the house from 2:00 - 8:00 and it quickly recovered.

From the forecast I think this is going to be a regular thing for awhile I am sure some won’t play. I am on a FB group for Flower Mound it is amazing how many have astronomical electric bills some over $1k while last month mine was $139.

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 01:35 AM

If you raise the temperature while you're gone dont you use lot of electricity getting it back down? We leave ours at 77.

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 01:37 AM

Not per ERCOT I like mine at home at 72 but with this heat I have to set at 77 so it cycles. At my shop set at 85 and turn off when I leave and when I get there to turn it on in the morning it's already 95 inside ...

And we have plenty of coal but the tree huggers shut it down. We could help the economy in West Virginia by firing up our coal plants. We have the technology to burn it cleaner.

I still have my thermostat set as if I was working. 82 degrees from 7:00 until 5:30. I usually override and drop to 78 or 79 at 1:00. By then it is about that in the house. I think it saves money but I would not go above 82. At 10:00 I cool it to 74.

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 02:29 AM

Ours stays at 73Β° and hasn't moved in a couple of months.

We are not on ERCOT's grid, they can suck an egg

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 02:59 AM

We keep ours 76-77 during the day if we are home, 72 at night.

I have a generator now (since the freeze of Feb. 2021) so if the power goes out for more than a few hours, I'm not worried. Except...........I am two weeks post op Total Left hip replacement. I will have to get some help to manhandle the generator out of the garage and hook up the cable to the inlet.

But I sure hope we don't start that Californicator rolling blackout shiz.

It stays 70 in my house year around, I'm not budging the thermostat for anyone. We are on solar+generator.

ESCOT don't give no incentives to change and I pay my bill.

Not my fault they can't supply the electricity. Not Reliable but Stupid.

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 03:38 AM

Ours stays on 70 my last electric bill was $195 on 2100 sq.ft. with a 4 ton unit.We are not a part of ercot. At the park model on Fork I turn it up to 80 when we aren't there but put it on 70 while there, bill is usually around $45.

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 10:35 AM

I leave mine at 74 day or night. My upcoming bill is 124 $ and some change. I am not going to start moving it up and down this setting works for me.

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 12:34 PM

75 at night
73 daytime

Same as always. They need to improve their equipment and service.

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 12:36 PM

Yes, we've adjusted our thermostat from 72 to 73 during the afternoon and from 68 to 71 at night... but not because of ERCOT. The last electric bill was more than I've paid in at least the last 11 years.

Ours is at 72. 24/7. Worth the $490 electricity bill!

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 01:00 PM

Keep it at 74 during the day. Soon as my wife walks in the door she turns it down to 69 and i commence to freezing my behind off.

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 02:02 PM

We turn ours up to 77 as soon as one of us wakes up and it rarely come on during the day unless it gets over 100 degrees until we go to bed. We keep it at 70 degrees at night, but I could probably get by with 72.

76 during the day and 68 at night

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 02:10 PM

We have two HVAC units. The one for the back half of the house (bedrooms) gets set to 80 once we're done with morning routine, and we keep the other one set for comfortable ~76 with the ceiling fans running. Main concern isn't ERCOT so much as keeping our electric bills from going too high. Back thermostat gets set down to 76 when it's bedtime.

Our weekly electric usage is still higher in this heat, but it's better than when we keep both set lower 42/7

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 02:20 PM

72 in the day 68 at night. ERCOT can kiss my arse.

Re: Thermostat - 07/14/22 02:22 PM

We have 4 units here...

1 Upstairs stays at 82* until we decide to venture up and watch TV, then to 78*

1 Bedroom is 72* at night...during the day 76*

1 Kitchen / Living Room is 80* always unless we have company, then we drop it to 76*

1 Guest house is kept at 78* day / 76* at night

Keep ours on 74. Monday was having hard time maintaining 76 so Tuesday I pre-cooled the house from 9am at 70. Was able to maintain 74 that day. Going to be a long and stressful summer under ERCOT.

Between the higher bills and some with systems struggling to keep up may be a lot of folks reassessing if they should upgrade their HVAC to bigger, more efficient units. Very glad we did a few years ago.

73-74 when I'm at work 71-72 when I get home, 65 at bedtime

Had the highest electric bill for the month of June since we moved in 15 years ago. It will probably be a little better this month.

Re: Thermostat - 07/15/22 12:42 PM

My wife and I did much analysis and agreed that in the Summer we'd be at 75 and during the winter 65. In reality she keeps it at 72 year round.

Re: Thermostat - 07/15/22 01:27 PM

77 with lots of fans. Drop to 75 from 9pm until 11:30pm.... just enough to make you cool to want to head for covers. I don't want or need to keep the house like a meat locker.

just saying they never should have deregulated electricity

Re: Thermostat - 07/15/22 01:58 PM

Pretty much 76 24X7. I'll run it up to 77 or 78 when I'm home by myself, but when the camp director gets home she puts it back on 76 right away.
