Re: Self driving semi's - 06/10/22 11:18 PM

Probably a lot safer than the meth heads driving them now.

Not a fan. . . . Show me of 'Real Field Trials' in 2025 and I'll let you know how I really 'Feel' . . . . .

IMO, too many variables to be added to the database as of yet . . . . .IMO.

very bad idea, you think the side by side tractor trailer drag races are bad now, BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

they would be better off going to all train transported and use the electric day cabs for the local stuff (that way I would never have to deal with any of them)

My bil has self driving farm tractors. Falling asleep is common.

Could go either way…good or bad. Some of these newer drivers are scary bad.

They’ve been doing that for a while now.

Yes. Great for farmers. All their fields are GPS mapped.

They have been testing them at least six months to a year.
A driver sits behind the wheel and only interferes if he deems
Necessary,

I think it was last June when I saw my first one outside of El Paso. Saw my first one in Ft Worth on Monday or Tuesday coming off I35W to I20. Not a fan, but probably safer than the idiot truckers I've seen texting and driving

VIA in Arlington has the self-driving Lexus crossover SUVs. We have at least one that is always around campus. Hate it. Drives way too freaking slow and it stops wherever to pick up the riders. Like it'll stop 20 feet in front of the stop sign, pick up a rider and then stop again at the stop sign. UGH!!!!!!

It would take me about 32 seconds to go ahead and grab the wheel.

What could possibly go wrong with a self driving vehicle hauling 80,000 lbs of cargo down the interstate at 60-75 mph... popcorn

I saw a documentary where they are working towards having convoys of self driving semi trucks all un-manned.

Why aren't they driving at night?

Re: Self driving semi's - 06/14/22 12:07 AM

Cargo not 80000 pounds. That's total rig weight or it used to be back in the day when I was dispatching. For us, seems like 32 would put you there
