Home Depot to foil Shoplifters

Home Depot to foil Shoplifters - 08/03/21 11:18 PM

The home-improvement chain is unveiling power tools that won't work unless they're properly scanned and activated at the register via Bluetooth technology.

If a thief managed to smuggle a power drill out of the store without paying, the drill simply wouldn't turn on.

I was hoping your thread title meant they were going to wrap shoplifters in aluminum foil....I'm VERY disappointed.

Good. Can you still get 3 drills for the price of one in the "Self Checkout" registers?

Have you seen them count change? Your drill will never work, paid or not paid for.

Dang it. I wondered why my new drill wouldn’t work. bolt

It reminds me of going to a clothing store and they forget to take the electronic tag off and you set off an alarm while leaving the store,

Well, Bob, would that be “properly scanned?”

I once bought an expensive to me white linen shirt in Dallas to wear at a family photo shoot in Florida, as I was getting dressed in Florida I noticed the anti theft ink device still on the front tail of the shirt. After a quick you tube tutorial and a quick trip to Ace hardware I am now an ink tag removal expert.

It seems to me they stopped with one small step to go.
Why not have it where it needs to be activated by its OWNER in order for it to run.

Then my workshop would be safer.

What they need to do is...shoot thieves first then ask questions later.

This ^^^^^^^^^

I was at Lowe's one day and three guys ran out of the side emergency door with arm loads of tools to a waiting car. Alarms are going off and there were two guys nearby which just stood there. They told me store policy was that they could not try to apprehend them.

Much like Bob Davis, I am wondering if they would try to stop me I mean my friend if he tried the same thing?

The dopers steal the tools and swap them brand new in the box for dollars or dope; the fence won't even know it doesn't work.
