Covid is still a thing....

Covid is still a thing.... - 05/09/21 08:15 PM

I was foolish enough to get both pfizer vaccines which my employer (MBB) recommended for all employees to get before returning to the office... well one week later I have tested positive... I have mixed feelings about it all but nevertheless you can still catch it even with the vaccines. Anyone have the same experience?

Re: Covid is still a thing.... - 05/09/21 08:22 PM

The vaccines are 95% effective once you have completed 2 weeks following the second dose. Looks like you might have been infected sometime between the first and second dose. 95% is not 100%, much like condoms, sometimes you are in the percentage that didn't get the full protection. If you were not fully vaccinated, meaning 2 weeks following the second dose, then your protection is even lower. Some of the variants are able to get around the vaccines, usually the Brazilian and S. African from what I have read. You should have a mild case of Covid. Here's hoping you have a mild case and a quick recovery without any long term effects.

Re: Covid is still a thing.... - 05/09/21 08:30 PM

Real world data show 90% effectiveness. 2 weeks after 2nd dose. So you have 10% chance of catching it, even if you do catch it the vaccine will help reduce the severity of the symptoms. Also depending on the test some have high chances of giving false positives.

Re: Covid is still a thing.... - 05/09/21 08:33 PM

I haven't had that experience myself, at least not yet, but 5% of the people in the initial trails still got sick from Covid.

How sick are your? From what I understand, the vaccine doesn't make the virus bounce off of you, it just helps your immune system fight it off. So there may be a lot of vaccinated people carrying the virus without symptoms.

Only symptoms I have are 103 fever and feel like I have a bad head cold. I received the second vaccine 4 weeks ago so I really thought my chances were super slim to catch Covid.

They are, in reality, but again, the variants are circulating and that's a big part of the issue and the reason both Pfizer and Moderna are looking at and testing booster shots to combat the variants. Moderna's booster early info was released the other day and looks very promising.

Condoms are 98% effective against impregnating someone...vasectomies aren't even 100%...sometimes things happen. I'm sorry it happened to you, but it sounds like you're doing well.

That is one of the many reasons this healthcare worker sticks up his middle finger at the vaccines. They are nothing more than political poison to justify the moron in the White House right now. The previous two were not any better. Thank you to all the vaccinated people for participating in the Gubment Experiment. PS! I wear a surgical mask around sick people, just so you know my position. Covid is real.

I haven’t had either vaccine, and won’t for at least the next 5 years, but I did have the WuFlu last March, and ran a 104° fever for a few days.
Seems like the vaccine is awesome.

So much misinformation on the Internet.

The Vaccines do not, and have never been to prevent you from getting Covid. They help you fight it off once you get it. They are highly effective at preventing you from having serious reactions from getting Covid 19, and are highly effective at preventing you from dying from Covid 19. Those are the 2 reasons to get the vaccines. You get the vaccine, then you are less likely to have to go to the hospital or the morgue.

In the county I am in, the majority of the new cases and hospitalizations are younger people due to the new variants. We have a long way to go before Covid 19 is a thing of the past.

They are not 100% and don't mean you can just go buck wild (not saying that's what you did) after you get them. I just got my second pfizer last week and am still going to take precautions. I feel like I will be ok if I got it but I have a high risk wife and a 1 year old so I don't want to take chances with them.

It’s definitely a thing. My cousin lost her 32 year old husband to it in February after 2 months in ICU. So keep going mask less and without the vaccine.

Have another buddy that was admittedly stubborn as well. Didn’t do any prevention and lived as he wanted. He contracted Covid and passed on the 28th of April.

The vaccine would eradicate it if people weren’t so stubborn, and being ANTI-VAX wasn’t cool to so many.

They are safe and effective, so I didn’t hesitate when my county announced vaccines were available for anyone that wanted it.

Flu is still out there, but cases are way down. Flu is highly seasonal and during peak season folks were doing a good job social distancing and vaccination rates were way up. COVID is definitely still a thing. My neighbor died recently. I finally got a chance to talk to his wife this weekend when I walked some mail over that had accidently made it to our box. I knew he had died, but I didn't know how. He was 52, died of COVID.

Re: Covid is still a thing.... - 05/10/21 02:31 PM

The below is straight off the CDC web site.

This states both it keeps you from getting the dreaded covid and keeps you from getting as sick. The Vaccines also make you ten foot tall and millionaires with in weeks of getting it also.

BUT YOU STILL NEED TO WEAR YOUR MASK JUST TO BE SURE

Studies show that COVID-19 vaccines are effective at keeping you from getting COVID-19. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine will also help keep you from getting seriously ill even if you do get COVID-19.

COVID-19 vaccination is an important tool to help us get back to normal. Learn more about the benefits of getting vaccinated.

illustration of woman in face mask who received vaccine
COVID-19 vaccines teach our immune systems how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. It typically takes two weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19. That means it is possible a person could still get COVID-19 before or just after vaccination and then get sick because the vaccine did not have enough time to provide protection. People are considered fully protected two weeks after their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, or two weeks after the single-dose Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.

The vaccine wasn’t touted as something that full proof from getting the Rona... if vaccinated it decreases the likelihood you’ll get it but if you do the affects are supposed to be more like a common cold versus hospitalization or worse.

People I know that had it bad and survived as long as 8 months ago are still dealing with complications from it. Can’t finish a short sentence without stopping for a breath or heart issues. If getting the shot will keep me away from getting it that bad, I’m getting the darn shot!!

I like facts and truths, not misconstrued data. People die every day from traffic accidents, cancer, you name it. That article and the Newsweek "fact check" on it doesn't contribute those deaths to the Covid 19 vaccines. Just that people have died in the time after they got a shot. That is how conspiracy theories gain traction and how the truth gets distorted or turned into lies that are repeated on social media. Be part of the solution, not part of the disinformation pollution.

Nearly100% of the people that die everyday had consumed water in the last 72 hours, but no one talks about the dangers of consuming water.

They breathed in air as well - a toxic mix.

There is part of your problem, getting information from a Far Right, Chinese started, nut job propaganda website.......

Only ones to date in the USA that have been directly (maybe) tied to deaths are the 14 or so blood clot deaths from the J&J shot.

Emit is correct on this. There have been few if any deaths directly contributed to the vaccine thus far. I'm sure a few will eventually happen, but like other vaccines it'll wind up being incredibly rare. These 970 people died, but nobody is saying it is for sure because they were vaccinated.

Emit and Jpurdue Are correct. Their information is spot on . 970 deaths is the correct number.

We know this is true because of the sterling reputation of the media. They report truth, have no agendas, are not tied to any forces outside the 4th estate. This has never been on display any more than this last presidency of Trump's and the election. National reporting is without blemish !

If you're sick.. stay away from me. If I have to go around a sick patient, I wear a mask. I do not wear one away from the ER.
Covid is still around, will be around for the rest of our lives... along with flu, TB, C-Diff, common colds/viral infections, and various other "issues". There has been an uptick in pysch patients, along with the rest of the craziness. We had many positive flu cases the last few months. A few were combined with Covid . We test for Flu A, Flu B, and Covid with one swab (if applicable). Each virus has a different test line that signifies which antigen is detected.
I will not accept the political poison to enter my veins (it's called "a covid vaccine"). Yall can give my dose to whomever you want. I'll be here in 10-15 years to take care of you when all the effects of the experiments are showing up.

Finesse Master.... I'm very sorry to hear this. Hang in there.

To you others..... At what point are we going to stop calling it a vaccine? A vaccine provides immunity. This is more of a "flu shot." Most surely realize this, don't you? If you answered "no" to this, don't go running off to India just yet.

But more on that later.

Please carry on...
