A couple of days an the upper brazos below PK

Posted By: steveiam

A couple of days an the upper brazos below PK - 04/06/21 01:41 AM

With my two grandsons and their dads.
This trip never disappoints-
I first did this same 20 mile trip in a canoe in 1979, and to now do it with my grandsons is pretty cool to me.
The youngest is 10 now and it was his first trip, AND he really caught more fish than any of us.
We had zero luck catching catfish this trip so succulent bass were the dinner guest this trip.

We had Rochelles shuttle us up to the dam, Hwy 16 bridge, we get on the river there and pull out at Rochelles place 19.5 miles down river at the Hwy 4 bridge.

Thanks guys, that’s a special trip for me, my oldest son is 40 now, and he made his first trip at 10, then his son was 10 on his first, and on this trip my youngest grandson just turned 10 and this his first.
I’d like to think that those boys will someday do this same trip with their boys.

Real nice trip Steve, glad y'all enjoyed it. I've been working on the new Palo Pinto state park and another project on the river, beautiful area of the state, love it out there.

I’m not aware of that new park, I bet that’s going to be a beautiful park, is it going to be somewhere on the river?
And yes it sure is beautiful in that area-

Good for you! If more people took the time to spend time with family in the outdoors the world would be a better place.

Lol-
I like campfire popcorn!

We sometimes do this trip over 3 days, 2 days doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for fishing, 3 days is perfect, just can’t always make it work with everyone’s schedule-

Have great memories of cooking Jiffy Pop on a wood burning stove with dad at the lake. However, I've never pulled it off camping. Inevitably either the pan gets bent or I burn it. Gave up trying to take it backpacking.

Ok, you have a point here, it does usually burn one side at least, I just look at it as collateral damage, and we eat the good parts and feed the fish the burnt stuff-

It can be fun finding something that sticks.

Each time I’ve wondered how they would do at that age, but all have done fine and loved the adventure.
I used to do all the work when we camped but now I get to enjoy those young strong doing all the heavy work while I just enjoy the trip.

I have been doing that trip my whole life. I think i was 8-10 years old the first time my family took the canoes down the river. Absolutely love the trip, even though its been 5-6 years since i went.

That bridge brings back memories when I was a kid. Dad used to take me there trout fishing. I believe that was one of the first places they ever stocked trout.
Cool pictures and looks like yall are having a great time!
