Give it to me.

Just getting started looking for ways to improve the over all finish of my blades. Any thing y’all see that could be improved on?

The last one looks like the front broke off. Other than that the rest looked pretty good to me. I might add I know nothing about knife making. hammer

Wow that was the one I was most unhappy with when I finished it.

I didn’t find it constructive. I love the wood handles. Your blades are beautiful, just not a fan of the blue handles.

Re: I know y’all will be honest. - 03/01/21 04:28 AM

I’d be hesitant to use the first two. The long skinny tips look fragile to me. I like the two wood handles the best, and the white pearl. This is totally a personal opinion, but my eye never goes to the two tones swirls. As far as craftsmanship goes, they look great.

How did you come up with the patterns in the steel? Are they stamped onto the blanks?

This rare awesome buddy! Love the handle and dyne shapes. The last chopper looks great. I’m working on finishing my second one tonight. Doesn’t look near as nice as those though.

They are made out of farrier rasp. They are thicker than they appear. The second large handle one did get a little thin towards the tip though. As long as my buddy doesn’t twist in the bone of a pig too hard it should hold up... maybe lol.

Here’s a look at the thickness of two in the works.

Farrier rasp really? Did you have to forge it, or were you able to grind it down?

I’d love to see some pics of work in progress.

No forging needed other than heating up to anneal the metal to be able to work and then reheating to get back to hardness. I don’t have the knowledge or want to yet to beat on metal lol.

I don't hate the blue handles but I prefer the wood. Ivory or pearl would be nice. The white micarta grips in the second to last pic looks a lot like pearl. Like the grips in the bottom pic, but the blade looks broken?

I also like the wooden handle. The marbled handles look good too.

Picture #2 & #4 for me . . . . . I like 'em both. What's the blade length on #2?

Nice work on all of 'em . . . .

I don't care for seeing the old file marks. I would grind them down past the marks. The blades look to thick. Nice work though.

They look really good, the 4th one down would be my favorite

Good job. It’s a fun hobby and I need to get back into it. Work on your finishing and with the details. Finishing takes a lot of time but you come out with a much better product.
cheers

Purty work. How do they perform?

Re: I know y’all will be honest. - 03/01/21 01:32 PM

The wood handle is my favorite along with the green handle in the pic of 4 knives.

The curve of the blade on those two is smooth and symmetrical al the way to the point.

I’d take any one of them

They look great to me. How are they with respect to rusting, just curious?

I tried making some knives, this is the best I could do:

That one was a large one it was basically the full rasp length I think the blade was around 12 inches.

The last one is based off a castration knife style. Scary enough I made that one for my wife it’s what she wanted lol.

Re: I know y’all will be honest. - 03/01/21 03:58 PM

So far I haven’t seen any signs of rusting with them.

Beautiful work... if I saw one of those for sale, the only thing that would make them better in my mind, is that the maker's name and year made isn't marked on knife. cheers

I really like these...and I would buy if I needed a custom piece like these. You sir have some talent.

1) I can't tell by the pictures of thickness of the blank, but they seem a little too thick. Maybe it's just an optical illusion.
2) Tooling marks on the blades needs to be refined. Some like them for the "raw" aspect, but a clean smooth shine sells
3) The resin based handles are neat, but I'm old school and like wood, bone, antler

Overall, I give these an 7.75 out of 10.

Beautiful job, you are definitely talented and applaud you for asking for criticism. I didn't care as much either for the blue handles, but that's just me. I am sure that is the favorite for many. Keep up the great work.
