Wiper Blades Seem's I have been out of the loop

Wiper Blades Seem's I have been out of the loop - 02/21/21 03:56 AM

Long story short the accumulated snow on my ride tore up my wipers when they decided to go into moisture sensing mode bang

I cannot for the life of me remember paying $20.00 + per wiper blade hmmm

I swear I can remember them being something like less than $20.00 for a pair.

Yep. Mine were $60 a set...AND FAR WORSE THAN THE OEM! These I have , Bosch, suck badly. lol

Priced headlight bulbs lately! I think all the new led and hid lighting systems have made halogen mostly on the way out. Seems like the manufacturers intend to make up lost revenue by upping prices to offset sales of units.

I've had good luck with the RainX. Don't remember how much they were but they've lasted over 4 years.

I buy new ones every year. Sun baked bugs you pick up driving to a lake at dusk are as tough as dragon scales by afternoon.

You used to just replace the blade, now it's the whole arm.

Trying to figure out which of the 6 adapters to use can make a grown man cry too.

Wait until you have to replace the entire windshield.

I thought the same thing when I bought my last pair. The kid at Autozone asked if I wanted him to replace them in the parking lot before I left. Heck yes, that would be awesome. He had it done in minutes and would have taken me over an hour.

We but the OEM Rain-X at Walmart and they work great not too expensive and easy to install. They do come with adapters but for both our Toyotas not needed just easy off easy on takes about 1 minute per blade.

Once a year I use .00 steel, wool on my windshield to smooth it and get all the crude off. Then you can use cheap wipers if you want.

I changed wipers on all 3 of our vehicles a few weeks ago. Blew through $100 quickly on tbat deal.

Interesting comments about the Bosch's. I switched over to them several years ago even with the price. Mine go a long time without rotting or streaking.

Nothing seems to outlast the OEM pair that were on our vehicles when bought. After that I've had good luck with the Rain-X brand.

Once a year, I just replace them with the ones at Costco when they put them on sale for about $5 or $6 bucks a blade. They either have the Goodyear or Michelin ones. Being retired, I don't drive in much inclement weather, but the inexpensive blades do a good job on my 21 year old truck.

Bosch does suck.

You can get them at Walmart for $5 each but they are the cheapos.

Home Depot sometimes had the Michelin brand on sale for $8 each.

All 3 took Bosch. Two vehicles needed rear blades too. Bought at Autozone, Wal Mart and Amazon About $140.00 total if I recall..

Surprisingly, the AutoZone house brand blades are good. $12 each I think.

Buy bulk cheap ones on rock auto, run rain-x windshield wiper fluid.

I've been running the Bosch Icons on our cars and like them. Not cheap but I get about 2 years out of them. I hate blades that leave a streak right where I'm looking when I drive. I second the idea of leaving your blades up if it's going to freeze or snow. Ice will cut up a blade real fast when you run it if you don't get the windshield pretty clean first. Of course getting a 1/4inch of ice off is a pain as we have all discovered recently...:) I just got our drive way cleaned up enough yesterday to be able to get my wife's car out.

Preach it, Brother. I ain't dropping that kind of coin on a 2001 Z71.

Re: Wiper Blades Seem's I have been out of the loop - 02/21/21 05:40 PM

The best thing you can do if you know a snow or ice storm is coming is to put a piece of cardboard on your windshield and hold it in place with the wiper blades. Use a piece of masking tape to hold it at the top and it will stay in place through a moderate wind. Sometimes a thin layer of ice will accumulate under the cardboard, but turn your defrost on for just a minute before removing the box and it will melt very quickly because it insulates from the top.

As for the wiper blades, I am of the opinion that the expensive blades don't last much longer than the cheap blades. I'd rather replace the cheap blades twice as often for $15 and still be way better off than buying the $60 blades. I keep the windshield treated with rain X, so the performance is pretty much the same as long as the rubber blade is not split.

Why is the first section of the blade to go bad, right at eye level? I think they make that part fail first on purpose.

Be kind to Bosch. They sent me some nice checks a few years ago because they felt shame for the role they played in helping Volkswagen cheat on diesel exhaust.

Bosch is French slang for cabbage head.....

Thought I would add to this exciting topic.

Re: Wiper Blades Seem's I have been out of the loop - 02/21/21 07:17 PM

I remember when you could just replace the blade itself. I did once on my Tacoma. Last time I called the dealer for inserts they said I had to buy 5 sets. I told them to stick it. I use Rainx and don't run blades any more then I need to. I see people all the time with wipers on, even on high, when it just misting.
