Hot or Cold? Need a poll

Hot or Cold? Need a poll - 02/14/21 03:06 PM

We need a poll!!

Would you rather it to 27 or 107?

Heard this on the radio and I’m in the minority. I’ll take 27 degrees all day and everyday over 107!!

27 over 107, but once you get below 20ish... screw it, give me the heat.

In Texas, 107

Prolonged 27 shuts down the economy

Prolonged 107 and people complain, but still able to work.

Heat for sure.

But I am from the heat. If it got below 32 where I am from... it was very rare to say the least.

I can handle 27 over 107, 27 isn't that cold up here.

why does 27 shut down the economy? We don't shut down up here till about -30 with wind above 10 MPH

I guess if 27 shut down the economy half the country would be shut down between DEC and MAR

I'll take 27 over 107 with humidity

Re: Hot or Cold? - 02/14/21 03:36 PM

27, I can bundle up with more warm clothes, don't think I could get away with runnin round nekked for very long in 107.

No doubts for me -- 107!

Re: Hot or Cold? - 02/14/21 03:42 PM

Not really fair taking this poll now. Do it in July or Aug, and results would be reversed. As I age, I will say that heat would be my choice, I guess. I stated in an earlier post that water temps will hover around 42-43 in this cold snap. Wrong! We should see 38 degree temps after this blast!

Give me the cold! You can always put on more clothes...but if you take off too many, you might just end up in jail...or on a date....or both.... eeks

Those two weeks of mid 20s and some ice around Jerry’s Super Bowl in 2010 shut down about 80% of mom and pop businesses for 12 days or so in DFW.

The metromess just doesn’t have the ice trucks, trains/infrastructure to handle prolonged cold and ice.

Things are different in geographical areas that are used to experiencing very cold temps.

Homes are built differently, roads are designed differently, infrastructure in general is designed for cold. Example you have snow plows, salt trucks things like that. We have like 4... Not to mention folks are used to driving in those conditions and as a result know how to handle it safely. We wreck out fast in rain, forget about snow or ice.

talked to slade doughtery at the fishemans cove ramp yesterday, he had just loaded his bullet and said the temp was already at 38 in the cove. would not surprise me to see ice on it after wed.

Re: Hot or Cold? - 02/14/21 03:54 PM

I would much rather have 107 vs 27. I can handle heat much better than cold. Our homes are designed to handle heat vs cold here in central Texas. I just want 1 good freeze / year so I can Roundup my yard. Other than that, you can keep the cold. I did enjoy the snow a couple weeks ago, but it didn’t get very cold and the snow melted the next day.

Six of one, 1/2 dozen of the other for me. I wouldn't be outside too much in either one.

I've been here in the D/FW area since 1979, came down here from the Scranton PA area after one winter up there.

Been a fan of the heat ever since. 27 I can handle OK, check back with me after a week of this carp. Currently 16f with a feels like -4f . . . . I'm not going out today or tomorrow.

I think you make a good point. The air vents in the ceiling and 12 ft. ceilings are stupid when it comes to heating for comfort. We have natural gas heat but backed off of our comfort level thermostat settings today as part of trying to not run our state out of gas. I wouldn't mind bumping it up a few degrees and paying a few xtra $. Why is it that everytime we get a cold spell or a hot spell, the threat of running out of some resource has to be issued?

Re: Hot or Cold? - 02/14/21 05:48 PM

27 for me. Hate the heat. 107 would be brutal. A couple years ago we were pulling a travel trailer to San Angelo. Temps got close to 107.

Blew a trailer tire in Kerrville. My 4 way lug wrench couldn’t grab the lugs so we had to call a tire service. Told the wife we weren’t leaving Kerrville without a spare. Found the local Discount Tire and got a replacement.

An hour later, we were exiting I-10 at Junction and blew another tire. There’s a local tire service there. After another service charge and another tire purchase. We limped our way SA. Spent almost a grand on tires and service. Local Walmart had the lug wrench I needed.

Heat was brutal all week. We were supposed to head home the next Monday. Again, forecast was 105+. Instead, we headed back at 8:00 Sunday evening. Got home around 4:00 am with no issues

I’ll take the cold every time.

I so so wish I liked the heat... especially living here in Tejas...
But not moving where it is cooler... to many yankees.

Gimme 27.. I try to hibernate in the hottest part of the summer.

Re: Hot or Cold? - 02/14/21 06:59 PM

27, but just because I have to work in it. I can stay warm at 27, if it's 107 outside it's 130 at work.
The most miserable I've ever been was around 107 in Texas City, 100% humidity in fire retardant gear.

Re: Hot or Cold? - 02/14/21 07:29 PM

27 is not bad, it's barely freezing. I'm content as long as the temp is above 0 and below 100.
Posted By: RayBob

Re: Hot or Cold? - 02/14/21 07:33 PM

I'm going with 27.

Of course the humidity affects both extremes. Dressed well 27 is quite tolerable. Only time 107 is tolerable is in the water or inside the A/C and both of those are pretty restrictive.

I might add the 27 with a stiff breeze is miserable.

many, many birthdays ago I could have handled the 27 a lot better than the 107....not so anymore....anything below 50 is uncomfortable now....
