I seem to remember an announcement that he would be primarily a utility infielder, playing 2nd, SS, and 3rd on a regular basis.

This is a good trade but I will miss Elvis personality, but not his recent play.

This. I hope Davis plays every game like he was still playing against the Rangers.

Re: Rangers trade Elvis - 02/06/21 08:01 PM

Elvis was and is overrated with his glove IMO, making the middle infield for the rangers one of the worst If not the worst in baseball defensively. If Davis can hit 240 with 30 bombs this is a huge win for the rangers

Re: Rangers trade Elvis - 02/06/21 08:22 PM

We might miss poor old Elvis. His career batting avg was .274.

Davis has a career avg. of .243. He really wasn't much of a Ranger Killer either. In 79 games against Texas he hit .271. He did hit some HRs and had some RBIs, but now he won't be hitting against them. There are 19 teams in MLB that he hit less than .271 in his career, and several of those were below the "Mendoza Line."

His batting is worse than Elvis. Elvis gets about 40 more hits than Davis in an avg year. He avg 30 stolen bases a year to the 3 that Davis gets. Elvis has 94 Ks per year and Davis has 170.

Oakland got a pretty good deal!

Re: Rangers trade Elvis - 02/06/21 08:55 PM

Is there anyone left on the Rangers that fans know or care about other than Gallo and Kiner-hyphen somebody ?
Been watching the Rangers since 72, worked on the grounds crew in 86, saw Nolan throw his 5K strikeout.
Also was at the game for their first division title and first home playoff game.

Now I have no interest in watching or following them. No reason to.
Good luck Elvis, had some good times with you and the old gang.

Agree

Having said that. My lifelong passion for the Rangers “and yes, I was here before they were “. It’s gone, I used to listen on my transistor radio that I built from a kit from radio shack. I guess I’m old and things change but I couldn’t tell you the first thing about the team.

I haven’t paid any attention to them for a few years, I used to watch them quite a bit. Good luck to Elvis, I got nothing against the guy

Re: Rangers trade Elvis - 02/06/21 10:52 PM

This trade was about 2022 - getting Elvis off the books and taking a flyer on a young pitcher and good defensive catcher. Davis is likely just a one year rental.

Re: Rangers trade Elvis - 02/06/21 11:23 PM

They missed their chance, should have made the A's take Odor or no trade. I liked Elvis he seemed to always have a great attitude. Yeah his on field performance was down but how much was some of that due to ownership failing to put a decent team together.

Re: Rangers trade Elvis - 02/07/21 01:05 AM

Oh no! Now who on the team is going to spend all their time coming up with funny handshakes? I hope the deal included 3 or 4 unused ones to get the season started until the new Funny Handshake Guy is up to speed.

Re: Rangers trade Elvis - 02/07/21 02:37 AM

Last thing this team needed as another all or nothing bat like Davis. 200 strikeout a year guy like Gallo. Why on earth do they thing .200 avg, 200 strikeout guys that can maybe hit 30-40 fingers is secret to success? bang
