Done with selling on Ebay for awhile

Done with selling on Ebay for awhile - 02/05/21 11:13 PM

I get it, they're a business and they have to collect enough in fees to make a profit. But their latest fee increase puts it over the top for me, and it's rather annoying because a big chunk of my sellers fees go towards paying fraud losses on the part of unscrupulous buyers and sellers.

Guess it's time to hunt around for a different selling platform. It's the interwebs, there's surely plenty of places to sell, right?

What do you typically sell on eBay?

I just read a looong article about the scams run by both buyers and sellers on eBay. Some pretty sophisticated stuff.

I’ve bought and sold stuff on eBay and have had only one sour transaction. I’m lucky

Have you looked at Bonanza?
I really don't know anything about it, but I have recently heard that a lot of folks prefer it over ebay.

I had a guy who was highest bidder for three days in a row and then all of a sudden his bid disappeared. I get a message that says the bidder has retracted his bid. Reason: Entered wrong amount.

I didn’t know they changed it to where people could just change their mind after entering a bid.

Set up a fake account, use your real account to low bid something.
Then use fake account to really high bid so no one else bids.
Then drop the fake bid and only your low bid is left

Ahh! Then why would eBay allow them to retract bids?

If they cancel the fake account it doesn't really matter

I sell on fb now exclusively, I got rid of my website and ebay adds at least 7 years ago.

Its a bit of a pain, you have to post your adds on fb groups, I post them usually on sunday or monday and make a few sales that day or the next day or two it seems like.

I sell ford 9 inch third members mostly to circle track racers but can build them for street cars hot rods also but those guys ask too many questions and waste my time, circle track racers want to race and need the part, most call and order zero other questions. I have a guy that builds them and ships them for me, if I had to touch them Id be done. Every time I post my add in a hot rod group or such I regret it.

Most of what I sell is coins & bullion related items. Also any odds & ends that find at garage sales for cheap - comic books, toys, fishing tackle, etc.

But it's cool. I can take a break for awhile.

They have a market capitalization of $29 billion at the end of 2019 and the company's founder has a net worth of $13.1 billion.

I had to retract a bid once. I think they have a rule that says you can't retract in the last 24 hours, to avoid that kind of mix-up.

I stopped using ebay a while back. I had 400-something feedback so I used it a good bit. But the fees are just stupid.

Years ago that was my side gig for extra spending money. It would not be unusual for me to have 5000 buy it now auctions running at any one time. Like you I mostly sold "smalls", but the fee and postage increases, and ebay siding with buyers who learned how to work scams, and not allowing negative feedback for buyers made it not worth it anymore. I'm retired but I do still have the small business. I only sell in an antique mall now. I do sometimes buy inventory on ebay, but have not sold there in years. Sucks if they are doing yet another fee increase.

I quit selling on eBay years ago when they did that.

You sell something, ship it with tracking and signature, and then the scammers say they never got it!

Then eBay would take you money back and leave you holding less than nothing since you lost your goods, the selling fees, shipping, and the money you would have made. realmad
