Another Fishing Question!

Another Fishing Question! - 01/20/21 09:09 PM

I've got another fishing question that I could look up in duckduckgo, but I'd rather ask here.

Again, more viewers in the OT than in the "bank fishing" section.

Do any of you use "red fishing line," and if so...

1. When do you use it? What circumstances?
2. Do you use leader line?

Addendum: I did not catch any fish the other day. The wind was fierce, but I'm determined to get back out!

I tried the Cajun Red when it first came out. I couldn't tell that it bothered the fish any, but I didn't like the lines other properties, so I never bought any after that first spool.

Fish are stupid, except for largemouth bass, they hate red line.

in this part of the forum it depends on if Trump or Biden use red line

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/20/21 09:37 PM

I've been consumed with politics since Election Night, and I'm trying to stay away from it.
Many times I fail.

I'm aching to get back out and fish, hence, a fishing question.

Thanks for the replies so far. IN65

It would be great to hear from those who do use it with success, if there are any.

Crimson line and Crème lures are the standard of excellence in this region.

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/20/21 09:55 PM

I don't use it but that might have to do with the quality manufacturers don't offer their line in red? hmmm

Red is the first color to disappear underwater. So I think the marketing behind that was, your line becomes invisible to fish.

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/20/21 10:05 PM

I saw no use for red line and the only user I saw complained. It may be more apropos to inquire about red hooks.

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/20/21 10:06 PM

I do not use red, lo vis green is all I use. I also only use mono, never braid or floro

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/20/21 10:06 PM

No
gimmick to hook fishermen.
Red does not " disappear" under water, It turns black. Might as well use black line. I bit and tried one spool of Cajun Red years ago,
worst line I have ever used.

A few years back I saw some Red Cajun on sale, so I snagged it.

Last Autumn I put it on one of my baitcasters, but never really used it.

I guess I will try it soon, and I'll be able to report back myself!

Red Cajun is what comes standard on Zebco 33 reels now. juggle

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/20/21 10:25 PM

I only fish salt water and I tried that Cajun red years ago. Didn't care for it at all. Nothing to do with red, but that line was chit.

I fish all Hi Vis Yellow and have been for years now, Power Pro super 8 slick in 20 pound test. Salt water fish don't seem to care at all.

Come to think of it, last serious fresh water fishing I did was 2011, last year I lived in North Texas.

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/20/21 10:25 PM

Zebco is an institution!

I guess that's a "Thumbs Up"!

Addendum: I'll still give a "go" and report back when the time comes.

The Alabama rig pretty much blew all the line and the being quiet theories out of the water. You're throwing a concrete block sounding lure, on a rope, in the clearest water of the year. And it catches them better than anything else even comes close right now.

Did someone cross a red line, or was it a line in the sand? bolt

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/21/21 12:03 AM

So when it came out I remember they said that it was invisible to the fish... then red hooks came on crank baits. Those made the bait look injured??? Red line “can’t see it” red hooks look injured?? I thought what the heck?? So I never tried it. And I never cared for the red hooks either. I bought a lure that had them. After a couple fish the red pealed off and it was gold. ?? I think they are fishing for fishermen’s money! Lol

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/21/21 12:14 AM

I used the red line and didn’t seem any better or worse really fishing with others that weren’t using red.
... the reason the red hooks work so well is because the bass can’t see them and it makes them mad when they see a lure with no hooks bolt

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/21/21 01:00 AM

I used to string all my Abu Garcia round reels with Cajun Red Line. Half my family is from Louisiana, so they hooked me like a suckerfish. I had no major problems with the line. It performed just fine, but I eventually moved on. It did have a little too much memory for me.

I have used red line but I don't think it works as well as green or clear.

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/21/21 09:00 PM

I believe I read an article stating that fish couldn't see the color red after a certain depth . Made me question while several deep-diving lures have red coloration .

Re: Another Fishing Question! - 01/21/21 09:02 PM

Mr. DCMac,
It is not the first.

I asked a "time of day" fishing question on 1-17-21.

I'm sure there were many others prior to that as well.

I catch fish in 25 feet of water using DD-22's, but they eat it in the top 3-5 foot of the water column. Hint: standing timber is involved.

Cajun Red on most of my spinning reels. Been using several years and no complaints. Is this a trick question?
