Insuring your trailer(s)

Do you guys do this? I just called my agent about insuring our race trailer as I've seen several burn or damaged lately. I don't remember insuring my camper when I had it

if it is attached to a vehicle it is covered, separate rider for while it sits.

my trailer at fork is not worth what they want to insure for total loss.

I never have but a good idea moto especially with what y’all have invested.

The trailer is only covered for liability while it is hooked up to the tow vehicle. If you cut a corner too sharp and run something over, your tow vehicle policy will cover damage to whatever you ran over. It will not cover damage to the trailer.
You probably want a trailer rider policy to your house policy to cover your trailer and contents for a specified value. This would cover your go-carts and tools if someone uninsured rear ends you on the highway and you end up spilling your trailer contents all over the place. It would also cover you for theft.

If you do get a trailer policy, keep a spreadsheet of values (trailer, go carts, spare parts, hand tools, welder, etc.) and pictures of the items including and VIN and serial numbers. It will make filing an insurance claim and/or police report much easier. Make sure the policy is for replacement value. Half of your hand tools are probably older than your kids and will last a lifetime. You want them to replace the tools at current cost, not depreciate them.

With USAA our Winnebago RV is listed as a vehicle on our Auto Policy. It is insured as a separate "vehicle" even though it is a pull behind, and runs about $1200 per year.

An 18 foot trailer we had for hauling the little Kubota, yes. The 10 foot utility trailer, no.

I defer all things trailer to our sooner friends.

I insure all of mine, boat, both flatbeds, two cattle trailers, the welder trailer, and it comes out to about $400.00 +/- per year. It is lumped in with the tractors and equipment. Trailers get stolen a lot, so I thing it’s worth it.

Had my enclosed race trailer insured, it paid off when I got rear ended years ago.

It wont cover the vehicle inside if it can have its own policy just fyi.
