The Popsicle Lie

The Popsicle Lie - 11/29/20 07:23 PM

How many of y’all have had you tonsils (and adenoids) removed? I was a teenager so I remember.

“After the operation, you can have all the Popsicles you want!”

The nurse told me that. She lied. My sis and my wife had the same experience.

Did y’all get a Popcicle?

Have mine also. In a jar.

No cream or popsicles.

I had mine removed 70 years ago. Some ice cream. There was a picture in the paper of a half dozen kids from one family of an assembly line operation.

Never heard that about popsicles. Always heard it was ice cream.
Never had the experience. It's other body parts I've lost.

Speaking of popsicles, when I was a kid another kid down the road took his own out without anesthesia . . . horseplay in the house with a couple of popsicle (or was it fudgsicle?) sticks in his mouth...

I have difficulty remembering that far back if I got that promise . . . it was 62 years ago. I'm sure if I wanted it I got it.

It is based on sound medical principle though.

Ice cream, not Popsicles.

Whoever told you Popsicles was the hidden liar.

No ice cream.
All we got was jello.
42 years later and I still won't eat jello

I had mine out many years ago in my mid 30's. It was the week of Thanksgiving. I remember my T day dinner being cranberry sauce. They put stitches in the back of my throat and it hurt to eat anything solid for a couple of months, lost about 30 pounds.

I had mine taken out in my 30's, they did not offer a Popsicle or Ice Cream. When I got home I tried to eat some ice cream and it hurt like heck. Came down with strep throat 3 days after surgery and had to be taken to the ER as my throat swelled almost closed. Tonsils need to be taken out when you are under 10 years of age.

Re: The Popsicle Lie - 12/02/20 11:42 PM

I had mine out and I was given jello.

Worst part was it was 19 years ago almost to the day. I had it done the day before thanksgiving to save leave days.

Terrible watching the family eat turkey and I had a bowl of jello.

My son had his out at 8 years old and he ate a hotdog the next day and never acted like anything hurt him and ate like normal. I was down for 7 days.

neither one of us has had strep since so it was worth it.

Back in the early 50s it seemed like having your tonsils and adenoids out were just a part of being a child. Just like having measles and chickenpox. crazy

My ex would have strep at least once a year, every year, and be horribly sick. Had her tonsils out in her late 20's and as far as I know has never been sick like that again.
I had mine removed at 7 years old. I've never ran a fever or had anything worse than a slight cold since then.
