Carp Haul - 11/20/20 11:21 PM

Talked to a neighbor that commercial fishes our pond. She said they got 10,000 lbs last night over by Irving Cobb Marina.

That works out to $1900.00. Not bad for a couple hours work.

She said they got 6000 lbs last week by Wildcat.

So happy...hope she gets every one of them.

Someone is buying carp for $.19/lb? Or is this like a government bounty?

Re: Carp Haul - 11/21/20 01:01 AM

I think the current price is 14 cents per pound...and the government kicks in 5cents a pound.

How many did they leave laying on the boat ramp?

Nets. You should see them jump when the net closes in on them.

I hope she catches tons and tons of them.

The boat she uses looks like a John boat on steroids. It is aluminum...and thick. Twenty eight feet long. Flat bottomed. She said they had about four inches of freeboard left when they hauled the 10,000.

So someone filets them by hand at some point.

That's crazy!

Carp is also used for gefilte fish, although whitefish is the preferred fish

Tanker trucks full of carp and whitefish caught in cold water lakes in Wisconsin and Minnesota make their way to Jewish markets in the East to be turned into smoked delicacies easily costing $20+ a pound

In taste tests people are unable to distinguish between silver carp and cod. Cats agree.
