Growing up, what food was never served...

Growing up, what food was never served... - 10/22/20 01:56 PM

...in your house because one of your parents had to eat it every day when they were growing up?
In my house it was cornbread. Dad was sick of it so we never had it. Mom was sick of fried chicken. On the rare occasions we had chicken it was shake and bake, which my mother did perfectly.
So, what say you?

We (including my dad) ate whatever my mom cooked in silence and never complained or criticized.

When my mom was a kid, she had to eat a lot of fried liver.

To my memory, she never once fixed it for us.

Dad wouldn't eat pizza or spaghetti, we only had it when he was out of town.

I can think of quite a few that I grew up with that I refuse to serve in my house now. Microwaved chicken quarters, broiled sirloin (well done), fideo, rice with Molly McButter, ramen noddle "stir fry", beanie weenies, boiled hot dogs on white bread, spaghetti with margarine.

After my mom remarried, hot dogs all but vanished from our household. Apparently, my stepdads mother made boiled hot dogs at least once a week every week when he was a kid.

Hey do yall know what Arkansas women say when they are making love? (Daddy please raise up, your crushing my cigarettes)
Did you know that Arkansas has the highest (Gun to teeth ratio in the nation)?
Probably another reason the tooth brush was invented in Arkansas (get it... tooth?)

We ate it or we didn’t eat that day. Mom was such a good cook though, everything tasted good.

My dad was a butcher for the local IGA grocery store. He would bring home different things that nobody wanted at the time. Kidney, tongue, brain, chicken feet, etc for my mom to try cooking. Needless to say, I was pretty skinny as a kid.

Mexican food. Growing up in the Land of [/s]Lincoln [s]Obama, my Mex food was limited to the occasional Tom Tom tamale (google it) at the local A&W drive-up.

Liver and onions was RARELY served. I remember having it twice before my parents divorced. My father and 2 sisters like it, my mom and I hate it. Smells good, though.

My mom LOVED Church's fried chicken... and seriously one month we had it every freaking day... it was about 20 years before we had it again and that was only because they brought out that smoke/bbq chicken thing. Now I might eat it once a month or so.

Know how to tell if a girl in Arkansas is still a virgin? If she can still out run her brothers.

Med-rare steaks. Never had one till I was in college. Mom would throw whatever cut of beef she got from the IGA on the grill and forget about it till fire was rolling out the back, every.dang.time.

It was purchased 1 time.
My mother has not lived it down yet. 1983 was not far enough back to forget about that nasty stuff.

Grew up on a dairy farm........So the only beef that we usually ate was the old dairy cows that were too old to give milk anymore.

On topic, Tootsie Rolls. Dad was a POW in Korea at 17, so still technically still growing up. One month their Red Cross packages were mixed up with another units CARE packages and all they had to eat for a month was Tootsie Rolls. We didn't eat Tootsie Rolls or hand out Tootsie Rolls at Halloween.

Chicken feet. Never had to deal with them at all.
