Are you paying too much auto insurance?

Are you paying too much auto insurance? - 10/17/20 09:31 PM

We have three vehicles and two drivers. The Superduty sits in the garage until we go OTR for a long run. I just restored the ‘99 GMC and it’s what we drive around here when we (rarely) go out.

Wife called USAA on another matter and started talking about how we don’t drive so much these days. When the rep realized how little we used the Superduty she told us about the storage feature offered. Since I regularly go 32 days without driving the Superduty it qualified. Knocked $250 off the insurance. The only thing is, I have to call them before I hit the road and take it out of storage. There’s a note taped to the steering wheel now. Storage is defined as parked on your property.

So, are you throwing away money?

If my insurance knew how many miles I put on my truck, they would double or triple my rates.

I switched my car to Progressive for the time being...cheapest and I was able to raise my coverage by almost double. I had been with Germania for about 13 years, still am on 2 houses and my mom's car...but we're looking at changing them. But to be honest, Germania has been darn good to us, and I will probably switch back. I would have probably kept my new car with them had they been opened on Saturday to give me a quote...or offered online quotes.

mine just went from 1,566.00 a yr. to 1,158.00 with just a phone call to my agent, same full coverage and got a couple perks added.

finally got my credit back to what they consider "respectable". total dam scam to use credit to rate insurance, no tickets/wrecks/problems in well over 20 yrs. stopped once in that time and got a warning and I screwed up that time.

Agreed. Credit should not be considered when writing an insurance policy, especially when you're paying the premium in full for a year. I could understand it if you were paying monthly, but I pay for a year at a time. I have great credit, but it still doesn't make sense to me. I hate having to give out my SS# to them. I don't get the purpose for it.

I’m telling y’all about storage mode for a low mileage vehicle to save y’all money, not promoting USAA.

Everybody in the country pays too much for auto insurance. It is legally enforced extortion and there isn't a damn thing any of us can do about it.

It is not solely about paying, credit is part of a basket of things that determine the likelihood of a claim. It is based on millions of data points evaluated over the years.

That being said, I see an opportunity for complainers to start an insurance company that doesn’t use these pesky data points. You can be rich.

“Now what your looking for is a cluster of data points”

Insurance is a scam, for 4 vehicles I pay $1720 a year for 50/100/50 on all four two are new a 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie and my wifes 2019 Lexus GX. my brother lives in town he and his wife drive more economical vehicles put less miles on both than i put on one yearly, our credit is similar and we use the same agent...our dad... and he pays $2200 a year. We both have clean records with no tickets or accidents and are both well over 25.
