At the house I make Franklin's espresso recipe, store sweet baby Ray's, I have used head country and stubs and both are fine too.

Head Country original is good, so is Stubbs original. Stubbs original needs some additional ingredients.

I made my own until I found Head Country.

Re: BBQ sauce - 10/14/20 01:41 AM

I really liked French’s Cattleman sauce (original). Must have been in the minority because I think it was discontinued.

Been buying Head Country and it works fine. It’s a little sweet and a little thin but works fine.

Re: BBQ sauce - 10/14/20 02:26 AM

I had a roommate in college that was from Tulsa and one fall he came back to school with a case of Head Country. This was when you could only get it in Oklahoma, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I put that [censored] on everything but cereal. The nationally distributed brand is still good but it doesn't hold a candle to the original small batch stuff he used to get us.

Sweet Baby Ray's as a base and jazz it up a bit for beef and pork. Also got a "spicy" mustard sauce the wife loves on pork

Sweet Baby Ray’s is my wife’s favorite and I like it ok. I prefer Stubb’s spicy.

If you know how to cook the meat correctly, why do you need a sauce?

Looks like we have a consensus on BBQ sauce for the wife. It's the only sauce my wife will eat.
I hate it way to sweet and thick.

I really like grilled chicken or pork steaks with some sauce caramelized on it. Sometimes I get a hankering for it, sometimes it’s just to change things up...it’s a want, not a need.

Re: BBQ sauce - 10/14/20 01:01 PM

I've been making this for years. You can adjust the ingredients a little to suite your liking.... More/less spicy or more/less sweet depending on what I am cooking or who I am cooking for.

1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup vinegar
1 cup spicy brown mustard
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup apricot preserves
2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp onion powder
3 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cayenne pepper

Mix all ingredients in a pot and simmer for about 5 minutes or so. Stir very often so you dont burn it. Strain and enjoy!

Re: BBQ sauce - 10/14/20 01:05 PM

used to use brooks tangy catsup, now whataburger spicy.

simmer on the stove (double boiler works great, no burning) till reduced to thickness you want. great cooking sauce and really good on cheekin and pork

I really like now Head Country. it is very tasty, perfectly emphasizes the taste of barbecue. But before that I did everything myself, just mixed different herbs, oils and sauces together, it was also good

Brisket and ribs hold the sauce

I got some 407 the other week. That sauce changed, I thought it was just Head Country but something wasn't right.

I buy Stubbs, Head Country and Sweet Baby Ray's.

Stubb's Sticky Sweet or something like that is what we've been using lately. Was Sweet Baby Ray's before that.
