Good news, red dirt fans - 08/13/20 01:12 PM

Turnpike might be making new music soon, according to lead singer Evan Felker, who says he is sober.

I hope he is sober. I also hope they make some new music.

Good deal. Great to see him get well. From what I know he got clean and has spent the past 6 months ir so working as a hand on an actual working ranch just to get away from it all. He has put out a song or two and stayed away from the spotlight. I like that the article covered it well. One of my all time favorite bands. Their lyrics go well beyond tge simply rhyming of higher, fire, desire BS. Their lyrics have some substance to them plus they are great musicians.

This IS good news. Hope Evan is clean. They are a talented group and put on a great show. Gabe the drummer is a Texas kid and built a house just south of Kingston, OK right as all the mess with Felker went down in '18.

Great article right up until the mention of Garth Brooks. Too bad he didn't stick with his roots. Nashville got him by the nads early and he couldn't resist.

Great artist did their best work with a little inspiration induced by euphoria. Being sober doesn't mean good music. bolt

Well said. One of my favorite bands, too. He is a great songwriter.

Good to hear he is doing well. Hopefully Turnpike makes a comeback. I agree with Mark, their lyric are deeper than most and they tell a story with their songs.

"Sunlight shines in fine white lines on weathered stores with open signs" and "her tan legs checkered from a folding chair". That's creative genius and authentic. Love their music, and hope they make it back. Wish them the best!

And hey Duck Hunter, he often mentions the quintessential duck hunting gun - A Belgium Browning A-5! Again, authentic.

They played Gruene 5-6 years ago and ACL(tv) with Chris Stapleton a couple of years ago.

Also played at Whitewater last year with REK.

Loved these guys when they first came out and still listen occasionally when a song comes on, but I've got to say the vocals wore me out, I can't listen to the guy sing anymore. Not saying the songwriting and music is bad, I just can't stand to hear him sing.

Turnpike is one of the best to ever grace a stage, especially in the Red Dirt genre. I think instrumentally, not many can compete. Evan's songwriting is top notch and he would've had a great solo career or writing songs for Nashville. You put it all together and its that one in a generation type sound.

Well said. They were fantastic. Hope they make it back but as stated before, sober doesn’t always equate to good music. Hopefully that’s not the case here. They are my top band in recent memory.
