If he would have stayed out, they would have all come in and then he would have been restarting against them on tires that were 60 laps old. He would have sunk like a rock. He was in a lose/lose position there.
Not all would've come in. He'd have 10 cars between him and those with 4 tires.
None of those cars were as fast as him and could not have picked up as many spots as he did in a lap and a half. Which was impressive, but that call was conservative and that seldom wins a race anymore. Loses lots of races lately.
I think the only thing he possibly would have had to gain by staying out would have been clean air. Would that have been enough? Who knows, but I doubt it. Water under the bridge at this point. If that #24 tire would have just held on for 2 more laps until Chase took the white flag he would have been money.
On another note, Jimmie was so close to breaking a triple digit winless streak tonight. Sooo close.
Those Hendrick cars were all dialed, though. They'll get another crack at it on Wednesday.
