Extend French drain tricky location

Extend French drain tricky location - 05/20/20 11:48 AM

After that rain on Friday/Saturday, it has been evident that I need to extend the French drain 5 yards from the back fence line to the alley.

It runs in a tricky spot next to gas, electric, and irrigation lines

I really enjoy digging and backfilling. Laying pipe is one of my favorite things to do

But, this is in a tricky location that may require more experience rather than blind digging

Suggestions welcome

Thank you. Encor and charter will be out marking by Friday.
They said that laying pipe is a common request.

Good luck with the markings.. Last drain i did. Had 17 set of marks across 72 inches of ground. I have a 2600.00 bill from frontier that i need to give to my lawyer. Along with the picture puzzle.

Negative

They will not give you a depth reading unless you stand over them and watch.

They also get a 18" variance on both sides of the mark, It helpful but you hit a electric line you got issues. Cut a fiber line and it a pretty expensive repair, hit a gas line then good times.

I used to submit 5-20 locate requests a day for my company. Consider any markings a rough guess and don't assume that clear areas are safe.

I'd estimate that 1/4 of the notifications that we get back come from locators who didn't even stop in front of the property, much less try to locate anything. Some are hard working, know their stuff and will help you out to the best of their ability. Make the best of those!

So laying pipe where others have already laid their pipe can get you a pretty hefty fine!!

Good to know.

Seems like there ought to be some way you could blast that out with water, like a pressure washer. Sort of like they run holes under sidewalks with water pressure.

Yes, this was done first. Blasting out with pressure washer is a temporary fix.
I'm going to lay some pipe, don't be blocking.

Did they ever throw you company a party? I understand DigTess takes care of high volume callers?

I call them about 50 times per year, low numbers for sure but I always request the "emergency locate" so they will come out same day

So far I am good, have yet to get a bill. We usually hit the line feeding the cable, but it's only buried about 3 inches.

My guy hit an electric line not marked last year, arced the shovel and burned the end of off, took his eye lashes off with the spark, it was pretty scary deal, It was only line 3 inches deep, usually power is deep.

get your shovel and start digging!

15' is minimal and you sholdn't have to go more than 8-10" deep if you want it to drain to an alley.

I used to be a pipefitter/welder and laid a lot of pipe in my early years.

Then I got married and that work dried up.

Will you do an instructional video for old time sakes? You know, just in case I ever get the chance to lay some more pipe.

Instagram allows 60 seconds...

I'll have to think of some content for the additional 30 seconds.

15 minutes of begging and 15 seconds of the pipe laying is a long video. How about you only record a minute of the begging there big guy?

I always lay pipe the deepest I can go.

That’s just common sense.
