$5000 week job - 04/04/20 02:53 PM

New York is offering RNs $5000 week to work there on a travel assignment for 21 days. The pay is plus housing.
I actually know two people who are considering it and one who has already committed. Things serous up in here.

So are they waiving them having to get licensed in New York?

Compact license - certain states share - travel company handles everything.

New York isn't a compact licensure state

But I am sure the gov could waive that part.

5k a week plus housing isn't a bad deal at all. I have always said RN can be good pay, only need a 2 year degree or a diploma from some nursing school. Good pay for little educaiton

One of my friends is a nurse up there. He's been there for 5 months and was supposed to come home this month. That's been postponed. He moved up there because his girlfriend was transferred for her job. Her assignment is over, but he's staying.

Honestly, that’s not that much money when you start adding up the amount time I’m sure that will be required. Not to mention what you will be treating. All just my opinion.

Average pay for a RN in New York is around $42 per hour, this is about triple pay. Add free housing and it a great deal.

Hospitals for the most part do not hire two year degree nurses. So a four year degree is required if you wish to advance. Getting into a nursing is very challenging, waiting lists are long , and academic requirements are high. It is a mistake to say little education,it is challenging and if you break any rule or get <75 on a test you are out. I worked with nurses at the bedside who are now CEOs of hospitals and everything in between. CRNAS make > $150,000 year. Bedside nurses that have experience can easily make $80-$100K year. If you know someone who wants to be a nurse and start in a two year program tell them to get 28+ hours of pre requisites as assigned and get a 4.0 GPA. It is a good middle class job and the chance to advance is unlimited.

It’s is like every other job. You are committed to 3- 12 hour shifts a week anything over is voluntary and time and a half. Plus whatever bonus you can squeeze out of them. The nurses I know are all pediatric cardiology critical care specialists so I am assuming that’s the job I’m hearing about.

This. You'll also be quarantined 14 days when you return.

The hours are by contract and quarantine can happen anywhere. The downside is there is no provision for pay if you get sick.

What? Many Hospitals hire RN with only 2 year experience. They only care if you can pass the NCLEX. Last I saw was a 4 year BSN made about 50 cents and hour more than a 2 year RN.

You can go nursing schools all around Texas with a 2 year program and they teach you how to pass NCLEX.

NCLEX passing rates in 2019 for 2 year degree was 85%, and Bachelor was 91%

Then look at all the nurses they used to import from around the world, they had sketchy degrees but as long as they could pass NCLEX, they hospital would sponsor them from a 3rd world country, put them up in free housing and give them a per diem and singing bonus and eventual US citizenship.

I’m assuming on a 21 contract they are going to except 21 days of 12 hour days. I think housing is going to be a hotel room. I’m just going by what I know about contractors in my business.

The grail is a “Roberts Wood Johnson Foundation” study that traced the nurse competency and concluded it was equal BSN to ADN for two years and then the increased ability of the BSN to communicate across the health care spectrum improved patient outcomes. So hospitals instituted BSN requirements. No ADNs were released but in 2014 (at my hospital) but no others were hired (homegrowns excluded) and ADNs had to sigh a contract to get a BSN at a time certain which has been extended at least once. I worked with nurses from from foreign countries, some where green card immigrants and some were H1B. They were all competent at the jobs they were hired for. I know Nurse Managers at three major hospital groups and none even interview ADNs. It will change over time as the nursing shortage is for real. ADNs are now prepped to immediately get into an online bridge program to BSN. The most important things schools is not to pass the NCLEX but to critical think.

I think Parkland still hires ADN prepared staff. The nursing ER Residency there is one of the most sought after in the US.

No. 3-12 hour shifts a week. $100-150 hour is not unreasonable for high acuity assignments. Sometimes strike breakers are paid that.

My daughter was an ER nurse at Parkland for 4-5 years, she loved it and it stressed her at the same time-
It seems turnover is pretty rampant there, not many handle what parkland can throw on a nurse there-
She made the move to the hospital and stayed another year but has moved to another ER since-
I’m glad she moved on, just her parking and to and from the hospital always concerned me, especially at the original location-

10,000 for FNP. Daughter considered but has a great position here and did not want to lose it.
When the nurse returns it is a minimum of 14 quarantine.

Once you get seniority and move to a trauma room Dallas County can make you a believer. Most leave and go to a less stressful community hospital ER a CPEN or CEN opens a lot of doors.

Most hospital nurses work 3 twelve hour shifts per week to be considered Full time. I highly doubt they going to ask them to work everyday. I would assume housing would be either long term stay hotel or a shared apartment.
