UV Wands - another snake oil device?

Seen on EBay as cheap as 20.99.

Thoughts on their effectiveness

They use UVC lights to disinfect surgical tools so could work but would have to wear some welding goggles. That stuff will kill your eyes fast plus you can get skin damage from prolonged exposure.

Depending on what exactly you are trying to kill you may have to wand it for a while.

I used high dollar UV lights to try and kill some contagious crud in the bps aquariums yrs ago. pretty sure I got it now...

I was looking at those. I figured they were snake oil. My uncle always said rub dirt on a scrape or such and go about your business. Up until the 80s I found that dirt did not kill bacteria. Anyway they do work just not nearly as well as Clorox wipes.

Have no idea bout how hand sanitizer works. I will just keep washing my hands with Irish springs and keep my hands fresh and clean as a whistle. (if you remember that jingle you are old. Heck if you still call em jingles you are old.....I am starting to think I am old!)

they are my skin cancer treatment, so far so good. I should have an awesome tan in about 24 more sessions.

You can really mess yourself up looking into a UV light. Not sure it would be a good idea to put that in the hands of most idiot germaphobes.

UV light does kill LOTS of germs and microorganisms. We installed one on one of our pools to sterilize the water. Also, some cities use them to disinfect and sterilize water supplies. They are very good at it, but the bulbs are high maintenance. Here's an interesting article.
