Shopping this morning

Shopping this morning - 03/23/20 02:52 PM

Got to local walmart 6:30 for a 7 opening. Line stretched around the corner of the building. Finally got in and as I was going in, met some people coming back out who had TP. But none was there when I got there. Went to HEB and waited in line for 45 min when they came out and said they had a very limited supply of TP so I knew it would be gone by the time I got inside. Went to Sam's an hour before opening and short line. Ask an employee and was told they had no TP. Left for home. Haven't restocked anything since the beginning of this problem, so I guess I need to look at an alternative plan.

People in the long lines were very well behaved and respectful. I am 80 yo but ok and need no special consideration but I saw many elderly who were handicapped and the long line was a struggle. Wish they would find a better solution for them.

Why not go back to something like they did with gas and go off license plates or first letter of last name...etc? But for the elderly only. Elderly hours should be first 2-3 hours so they have time and they should split them up into 7 different days and spread them out to avoid the lines.

Have you tried the early hours for seniors? I think Walmart has their early open on Tuesdays (i think it is 1 hour early for 65+). I don't know how this works, but it would be nice if they had some supplies of the hoarded items for the seniors to purchase.

Has anybody used the early shopping hours?

Tom thumb and Whole foods are already doing this. they are opening early for 2 hours on Tuesday and Thursday for SR's only.

I know, but it should be 7 days a week and split them into 7 groups so they don't have to stand in lines.

I was at our local Walmart both yesterday morning at 7:15 and this morning at 7. No milk, no TP, but I was able to score a 4 roll pack of paper towels. Woo Hoo! They do get credit for having people sanitizing he grocery carts before you use them Brookshires yesterday early was a disaster. No bread, milk, eggs, and very little soups and such.

Here it depends on the particular store. We have three Krogers. One doesn't seem to have much, but the newer, larger one does. Some stores have meats, and others don't.

Around here the younger people are complaining about the older people having the first hour shopping. They say the older ones are getting the good stuff,NO WE DON'T HOARD like the younger ones are,

Wal-Mart early entrance for seniors is Tuesday and Thursday from 7 (open) till 8. At that point they let everyone else in. Wal-Mart trucks are running around the clock so they may not have received it over night. Their milk comes from another source and delivery time depends. Most of the time the milk delivery is around 10 ish give or take an hour.
It is a shame that people feel they need to hoard during this time. If everyone would just buy what they need and let the supply catch up there would be plenty for all.

Stay safe guys

No doubt, this is nonsense with people hoarding stuff. I still don’t understand the tp shortage and why everyone is rushing to buy it. Last I heard covid didn’t give you runs....

Re: Shopping this morning - 03/23/20 05:02 PM

Why are you out shopping? You know you are in the highest risk category that has everyone "locked-down" to protect yet you go shopping? Why?

You need to call a friend or a church and have them get your supplies. Going out now is not smart.

You make fun of me for wanting to get it, recover and go on with my life while you carelessly play Russian roulette. Do the right thing for your risk group.

Yeah, I can't find wipes for my three kids and we're running low. Also can't find milk or eggs. HEB had a line about 100 deep to get into the store. Was able to walk into Walmart no problem. Found most everything but the three items already mentioned. This corona thing is so dumb.

Folks worried about a nationwide shutdown where they can't even get to the stores to buy supplies, let along plants that manufacture TP. Only things I can think of that would cause a run on TP.

Yesterday Ratz and I saw a large group of teenagers doing cannonballs and belly flops off a cliff into 52 degree water, right where we were wanting to fish. This virus is targeting the wrong age group.

Re: Shopping this morning - 03/23/20 05:15 PM

When I went to HEB last Friday they had these huge heads of lettuce. They looked like romain but on steroids. Not sure what kind it was nor did I read the label other than the price. One head has like 100 huge leaves and was $0.89 a head. That's 100 wipes for less than a dollar!

Just like Venezuela and other socialist countries. Isn't socialism so gleefully wonderful! We should be like other countries.

There would not be any shortage if people would just wise up and buy the same amount of stuff they normally buy, think of not only yourself, but other's as well.

Re: Shopping this morning - 03/23/20 05:30 PM

Made my weekly grocery trip to Wal Mart and Kroger Sunday morning. First Wal Mart. No milk, eggs, bacon or breakfast sausage, and no italian sausage or stuffed sausage of any kind, and very little water, and no wipes.I have a tender butt. I have TP. My daughter and myself are not large consumers. I really don't understand the milk thing. Heck mine starts going sour about a week before the date on the carton. Are people freezing milk? It appears to me that the lowest cost stuff goes first and the meat items with the longest shelf. Shelf live is also the reason I figure for eggs being in high demand. The other thing in demand is tylenol. What are these people doing with all this stuff? Are we going to see TP stands pop up in neighborhoods like the lemonade stands in the old days? Kroger had no donuts, no stuffed sausage, limited frozen meals, no TP or wipes, just a few 6 packs of water (only highest cost brand of course), no tylenol but plenty of eggs and milk.

Yea,I have to say the problems are the olds fault. We really should have put more thought into having kids,if we had you young ones wouldn't be running your mouth and in the way. LOL

Re: Shopping this morning - 03/23/20 08:56 PM

I went to do some shopping for my parents before I head out of state. I got the the Kroger at 9;30 and things seemed fairly normal, not a ton of stuff but all the things needed including TP and it was less crowded than normal. I was surprised at the lack of people and the shelves having most things, then the cashier told me there was a line of 250 people waiting outside for opening at 7;00.

Maybe going back again mid morning after the rush and the stockers have time to get more supplies out.

I saw on the news where the schools were teaching 3 and 4 year olds how to wipe.
Maybe the older generation should go ahead and take all the baby wipes they need.
They already know how to use them and don't have to wait for their parents to put down the smart phone and show them.
