Daytona 500

Daytona 500 - 02/17/20 05:52 PM

After yesterdays big weather kick to the crotch the race resumes at 4 PM Eastern today on Fox Sports.

Thinking Harvick might get the W, but soon to be retired sentimental #48 has a fast car.

#48 had his car tore up entering the pits. Did they repair it well enough to continue? The left quarter panel area was torn all to **** .

Didn't realize that.

I think that was a replay from last years race.

They only ran 20 laps Sunday. Don’t believe anyone got torn up. Isn’t it on FOX, not FOX Sports?

correct me if I'm wrong... but I don't think they can touch the cars until the race officially resumes.

Yup. Its been a few years and it may have changed but in the past they started the race and several cars went right into the pits for repairs.

Does anyone know why Darrell waltrip is no longer working the broadcast for Fox?

I mean half the time he seemed to not know what the heck was going on, getting a little senile, but other than that he was alright.

Praying Newman is ok.

That did not look good.

Re: Daytona 500 - 02/18/20 01:24 AM

I’m praying he’s ok, but it reminds me of when Dale Sr had his accident at Daytona. I hope I’m wrong, but the lack of any updates after the race are identical to when Sr died.

Man I hope he's ok. He's one of the good guys. He goes bass fishing with Monte Coon when he's racing in FtWorth.

Darrell just decided it was time to retire and enjoy time with Wife and family. He was apparently there at the race yesterday and I though he did a good job and didn’t noticed any senility.

That was a rough hit and ride for Newman I hope he is alright and was hoping he would win it there the end.

Word is that Ryan is alive with non-life threatening injuries but has/had surgery and is in serious condition. This is good news at this time. The article didn't say just what happened to him to require surgery.

It was a very good race until the end. I suddenly found myself not enjoying when I thought I might have just watched a man die.

Glad to hear he is on the mend... Ryan Newman was always a cool cat.

Re: Daytona 500 - 02/18/20 05:16 PM

I am in the minority, and I have watched 500s for many years, but I didn’t consider it an outstanding race. I dislike nose to tail racing and this race was all nose to tail. I hope Newman is able to race another day. Get this race behind us and move on to some real racing. I wish they would schedule a short track the weekend after Daytona.

restrictor plates and the "uni-car" have killed a once great sport.

Re: Daytona 500 - 02/18/20 06:34 PM

I used to love Nascar. I would watch every race. knew every driver. Now I watch it if nothing else is going on. The multi team groups, restrictor plates and seeing these rich kids get top rides ruined it for me.
I watched the last 30 or so laps yesterday. It was like watching two freight trains battle it out. I told my wife before Lagano caused the big one that there would be a last lap wreck. I was right.

Same here, I went to so many NASCAR races back in the day. The short tracks were the best in my opinion. THE ROCK was a great track and a great show. Now it's all cookie cutter 1.5 mile tracks with rules so tight on the cars that it's just boring to me. It's all about the money now and it use to be all about the racing. I miss the day's when you would run into Dale Sr. at the BBQ stand at Martinsville buying sandwiches for his crew out of his own pocket.

Guess I just dated myself a little.
