Northwest HS in Justin - 02/07/20 06:23 PM

Gotta bring our colorguard there tomorrow for a competition. Coming in on 30 from the east, what’s the best route to take in a bus?

Depending on the time of the day, probably straight through Dallas on 30, hit 35E north to 114. 114 will take you straight to the High School.

Leaving here at 6:30am so we’ll get to dallas probably around 8:30 or so. Depends on how many bathroom breaks we’ll have to stop for.

I would use my phone. Most navigation apps take into account real time traffic to give you the fastest route.

30 to Fort Worth, 35W north to 114 then west just a few miles to the campus.

What does Google Maps say?
That time of the morning traffic should be pretty light and fast.
Any route with LBJ could be hit or miss depending on what work is being done. Double check any routes on the Tx DoT site to check for work being done.

Is there some sort of policy on bathroom breaks? All guys? All girls? A mix?

I'd probably go this route, you're most assuredly going to encounter some heavy traffic regardless of the route coming in from the east

You're right Westside, really no way to avoid heavy traffic trying to get to Justin from the East. I had enough of it years ago, figured out I exit off of 80 at Sunnyvale, Collins Rd and cut up to BobTown road, then to George Bush Turnpike, to 35E, a few miles north on 35E, then 407 through Flower Mound all the way to Justin.

OP, you do have the option of exiting 30 once you cross the Ray Hubbard bridge, near Bass Pro Shops and getting on George Bush Turnpike and following it around all the way to 114. It's longer, but may be less traffic for you.

Edit: Or.. avoid 99% of all that metro mess and take 380 from Greenville to Denton, then 35W south down to 114.

FAIL FAIL FAIL

380 between McKinney and Denton is under construction and has a stoplight every 1/4 to 1/2 mile

You are driving tomorrow right? Saturday?

Re: Northwest HS in Justin - 02/07/20 09:35 PM

I'm in Greenville and lately when I have had to go to Denton I go 30 to George Bush to 35E.

Pretty much you are looking at 160 miles and 3 hours of straight drive time each way. Bathroom stops will add time.

Have someone put the trip on Wayz(?) and look at it occasionally. Take a portable radio with an AM band; once you hit Greenville you can get KRLD (1080) and they give traffic updates every ten minutes (08, 18, 28, etc) even on the weekends. You really don't have to commit to a route until you hit Rockwall. Don't forget to read the Tx DoT traffic alert signs along the way.

That's about all I got.

I second the suggestion Pondfish made for the route and having someone with a phone monitor Waze app incase you need to go a different route. With as many users reporting in the DFW area, it is a great indicator of any clog ups in the traffic and will update quite fast.

On a Saturday....this. That's going to be your best bet most any day.

This.

I would go I-30 to 820 on the east side of FW. Then 820 around to I-35W.

I work in Dallas and live outside Justin a little way, drove it the last 25 years,as stated 30 to 35e take the 183 split and follow it to 114 it is smooth sailing until you hit Roanoke, then about 6 or 7 red lights later you are at the northwest campus,it is way quicker than doing the 635 thru Coppell route, when you pass dfw and the 121 merge stay in the 4th lane from the left and it will take you straight thru to Roanoke.

Made it there and back fine. First high school I’ve ever been in with restaurants. Pizza Hut, subway, and 2 or 3 more in Northwest. Nice school.
