Is this a legit Coronavirus concern?

Is this a legit Coronavirus concern? - 01/25/20 02:06 PM

According to the CDC here's how the Coronavirus can be spread.

* the air by coughing and sneezing
* close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands
* touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes before washing your hands
* rarely, fecal contamination

With the shear number of Chinese products entering the U.S. daily, one would anticipate a strong need to confirm they are virus free.

Short of banning Chinese imports until the virus is contained I have not a clue how this could be accomplished.

Do I have legit concern or am I simply being hyper virus paranoid?

Especially during flu season, put hand sanitizer pump dispensers in your home, your office/work, and car
Get in the habit of using them regularly.

This is the way the flu virus spreads. Flu lives on surfaces for 24 hours and tissue like hands for 15 minutes. The CDC will make recommendations. I am sure they have samples by now and we be along in a while.

Not even close. Though a lot of our weather patterns do form off the Japan coast. If there was an outbreak there, then I would send my team to do some research. Raining blood from exploded Ebola infect bats is a much larger concern.

touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes before washing your hands

This is how you get colds and flu almost 100% of the time. If you never touch your face with your contaminated hands you will very rarely get sick.

However most people do not know proper hand washing. With soap vigorously wash for 20 seconds (for the OT the time it takes to sing the ABC song).

Does anyone know how long the virus can "survive" on a surface at room temps?

Short answer is 28 days at 39.2 degrees. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2863430/

Well now that are confirmed cases in the USA we will know in about 3-4 weeks it will be either too late, seen something off Twitter where worst case scenario it could kill 10-65 million people. So since it originated in a Chinese chemical warfare lab probably worse than the flu people who have it just fall flat on their face! I don't trust our government that much anymore!

Don't know why we can't temporarily ban all flights into the USA originating from China until they get a handle on it.

Seems like a no brainer too me.

Probably a good idea to dip anything from China in a pot of boiling water before use.

Re: Is this a legit Coronavirus concern? - 01/26/20 03:03 PM

If you shut down every flight and ship leaving China; you would run out of TVs, shoes, fishing lures, clothes, computers, calculators, golf clubs, etc, etc. it would shut down every Walmart, Dollar Tree, and Big Lots

The effect on the economy would be staggering. Transporting, marketing, and selling goods mostly from China employs the highest percentage of working people in the US.

Some people would adapt, but many would panic

For most, money makes the world go around and for many, their way of life depends on cheap Chinese labor and goods

How long does it last on a package of fishing lures shipped from China?

Re: Is this a legit Coronavirus concern? - 01/26/20 03:08 PM

For fishing lure packaging I recommend rubbing alcohol and/or shine

Re: Is this a legit Coronavirus concern? - 01/26/20 03:45 PM

The shipment had a 3x5 card in it. noidea

So far the virus seems far less lethal than SARS which has about a 10% mortality rate. Coronavirus mortality is running at about 4%, unless the Chinese are lying about the number dead or infected. (which is entirely possible). The virus would be long since be dead on anything that travels via ocean. Airfreight could be a possible mode of transportation. The virus is already here in the states in at least three individuals, all of whom traveled here from Wuhan via plane. The scariest part to me is that the virus is spreadable long before symptoms arise. I'd be stunned if other people on the airplane didn't also contract the virus. Those folks are presumably still walking around and unknowingly spreading the virus at this moment.

On the whole though, I'm 2/10 nervous about this one.

Safe hand washing technique. Number one failure is ppl turn off that dirty water handle with their clean hands.... thus, contaminating their hands.

I don't think China tells the truth about anything. That said it doesn't seem like it will be a big deal here, based on the number of cases so far. Most of the deaths are older people that have preexisting conditions contributing to their death.

So at 4% kill rate, if you get give it to as many people as possible so your survival chances improve?
