Stubbs and Head Country is what I buy most.

For store bought....Stubbs

Franklins vinegar based sauced is awesome with pulled pork. But our HEB dropped the Franklins line. Now I pretty much use Head County.

Got a friend that makes his own, and it's the best I've ever had.

For store bought, Rudy's original is excellent (better than their bbq)

this is my granddads recipe, great sauce. if you make some let it simmer till thickened like ya want it. we used to use brooks tangy ketchup, use whataburger now.

Hey Brian, have you tried Burn Co. BBQ up in Tulsa? We don't have a lot of good bbq to begin with, but this place is great.

Blue Ridge Smokies Sauce


1 cup of Ketchup or Tomato paste/sauce
3/4 cup of either red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of either light or dark karo
1 1/2 teaspoons of Liquid Smoke
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 rounded teaspoon of black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder


1. combine all of the ingredients in a pan and wisk until
smooth over high heat
2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered
for 30 to 40 minutes or until sauce has thickened slightly


add ons
you can use cayenne pepper to bring the heat up
the apple cider vinegar is a little sweeter
you can also use molasses in instead of the karo if like the taste of molasses
we store it in the refrigerator for months at a time.

When I moved to Kingsville Texas in the late 70’s, I’d never seen so much BBQ cooked in my life at parties and get togethers. I also never saw bbq sauce either unless you went to a Resturant.

When I moved to Houston in 1990, I learned about bbq sauce. Head County is the best hands down. With that said, I rarely eat sauce with bbq, to much South Texas in me I guess.

When I use sauce it's Head Country, but hopefully the Q is good enough without it. My wife likes Sweet Baby Rays.

You don't put sauce on a steak. Why would you put it on BBQ?

I only use sauce on the last hour of smoking my ribs and on chopped beef.

Luling City Market. It's not your sweet dark brown sugar sauce. It's available only at the Luling City Market in Luling, unless you have a copy of the recipe and make it at home.

And it makes a great dipping sauce for fish, chicken or steak fingers.

Yo Bee Man.... have you tried HEB's "Carolina" sauce? It's a mustard vinegar based sauce and is awesome for pulled pork. They don't have any HEB's where I am now, I have 2 bottles of the Carolina saved. I've started making my own using the drippings from a brisket, but if I have to buy anytime soon, it's Stubbs.

I say the emphasis should be on the meat, not the sauce. You might as well just throw a chuck roast in the oven for an hour or so, slather it with sauce and call it bbq.

I like BBQ both ways with and without sauce some times. Anyone calling balls or strikes on either way is silly.

I like Sweet Baby Rays on pork, but for beef, Head Country or Stubbs is good. Papas BarBQ has some decent sauce in the restaurant, but I haven't looked to see if they market it.

both places sell their sauce in bottles but the sauces in the restaurants is better because they don't put preservatives in the fresh sauce...

Sweet Baby Rays is my fav right now, but will have to try some of the one's mentioned....

SuckleBusters original sauce (won a lot of awards) and get some Hog Waller rub for pork/ribs and clucker dust for chicken. You can mail order or pick up in Coppell. Great stuff.

The Selmon Brothers Hot BBQ sauce is the best I've ever had and I get it by the gallons.

Walmart sales the gallon jugs and the larger bottles of Head Country. I remember many many years ago picking up a pit ham from Bryan in his garage and that's when he told me he uses HC. Bought it and have never looked back

Blues Hog Original is a little too sweet and thick for me but mix it with Blues Hog Tennessee Red and you've got an unbeatable sauce.

I like the TN Red on pulled pork.

Always have those two kinds of Blues Hog (and s Head Country Original, which is my wife's favorite) in the fridge.

Yep. Everyone has it. They have several flavored. I get sugar free to start on my diet.

I've experimented with tons of BBQ sauce,I've stuck with Blues Hog original or champions blend or various Head Country sauces. HC original,bold and spicy, and apple habanero are great sauces. Ate bbq at Hurtados and told the waiter this sauce is Head Country isn't it. He went back to the kitchen and told me it was and I had a very good palate.

Meat Mitch Naked BBQ sauce is some of the best I’ve ever had. Academy started carrying it last year. Before that I just ordered it by the case from the web site.

Pepper Palace, Cinnamon Apple BBQ Sauce is excellent on ribs.

Stubs or Head country for me, wife likes masterpiece original.

Head Country is hard to beat for a commercial sauce.

Finally! We got a winner!! Love Blues Hog. I use the original for Pork Chops/Ribs, Smokey Mountain on Chicken, etc. & the Tennessee Red for Pulled Pork. I buy them in the 64 oz. jugs. In a pinch I use Head Country (really good sauce as mentioned many times) & believe it or not Kroger's Private Selection Charred Ends BBQ Sauce is very, very good.
