Hard to best east texas bbq, they know how to do it over there.

Re: Country Tavern BBQ - 09/22/19 02:35 AM

Thinking about east Texas bbq. More bbq places here in north Texas should offer hot links on their menu.
Meshack's in Garland is the only place I can think of that serves them.

Don’t ribs consist of bones?

Re: Country Tavern BBQ - 09/22/19 03:02 AM

Daniel Vaughan, the Godfather of Texas barbecue, loves this place and considers it a Texas legend

They’ve been in business for 80 years, so you know they’re doing something right

I do like 407, but the ribs at Country Tavern are better IMO. I stop in there when I have to visit our Kilgore yard.

Re: Country Tavern BBQ - 09/22/19 11:53 AM

East Texas has always had the best bbq, Stanley's, Sheps, the original Bodacious, Country Tavern, Stacy's closed which is disappointing. Those are the gold standard for bbq.

Re: Country Tavern BBQ - 09/22/19 12:40 PM

Nice to see the original Bodacious in Longview return to excellence. Ate there the other day and I would have to put it very high on my list. Maybe East Texas BBQ is making a comeback.

Re: Country Tavern BBQ - 09/22/19 12:56 PM

Being that I grew up eating Bodacious and Country Tavern BBQ, it was quite a shock the first time I had BBQ in Alabama and a few other eastern states. I need to head west for some 407 BBQ.

I heard if you boiled the meat in like old bay that it would taste like lump crab meat...so I tried it on one I caught in the Sabine river. I didn't have the right seasoning but it wasn't far off of a poor mans lump crab

Probably Au gratin potatoes and corn bread under the brisket. Also that looks like a pork rib combo, it comes with ribs, brisket and sausage.
I like to finish it off with blackberry cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
