AC

AC - 08/14/19 11:36 PM

My AC has ran nonstop the last few days. Understandable with the heat. But today, it's not neat as hot and even when the room reaches the set temp it never cycles off. What is the problem? It's a unit that is 3 years old, filters have all been changed and new batteries in thermostat.

Could be the thermostat, could just be that it's so humid....could be not enough clearance around the outside unit...could be low on freon....could be a bad capacitor. Could be a lot of things...

I don't know much about ACs, but I would try what I try on most other things electric.
Shut off the power (breaker) for 5-10 minutes and see if something resets. Might be worth a shot.

Re: AC - 08/15/19 12:34 AM

If it's set on 74 and showing its 74 put it on 75 and see if it shuts off

Did y’all turn it off when you went north? Any chance the fan is set to On instead of Auto?

Hose down the condenser coils with a mist spray. Will help with head pressure and assist in cooling down in the evenings.
Clean the A coil fins on your inside unit. Might have a dust hair blanket coating it and restricting air flow.

Re: AC - 08/15/19 02:05 AM

sounds like the thermostat...or the fan switch. Is the outside unit not shutting off? Or is it the inside unit that's not shutting off?

Coach....just answer the question, I don’t even care if it general, but most people keep their temp at a certain point.
Is yours 78? Or 62? This plays a factor

Re: AC - 08/15/19 02:15 AM

Feel for the airflow coming out of the vent. If its not blowing very hard turn the AC off and set it to fan ON. Unit could be freezing up. A lot of older units right now are running all day. Mine is.
