NFL Draft is upon us

NFL Draft is upon us - 04/25/19 01:57 PM

Starts tonight. Should be interesting.

I guess I'll wait until the 2nd round to watch since I don't have a dog in the fight until then.

Re: NFL Draft is upon us - 04/25/19 02:08 PM

Won't be as much fun without the Boyz having a 1st rd pick. But will be interesting watching what Oakland, 49ers, etc do.

Yes. Also guessing Oakland will surprise everyone and take UH's Ed Oliver at #4.

I still think they surprise everyone and draft a QB and possibly move Carr via trade.

Fake Jerry on the ticket this morning was pretty funny. He was wanting to trade up to get JF.

The teams with the most picks are the Giants (12), Patriots (12) and Bengals (11). The team with the fewest picks are the Seahawks (4) and the Bears (5)

How did the Patriots get so many picks?

the midget will go first to the Cards, and as I have said in the past. He is going to be great.....

4 for SB, 4 through trades and 4 assigned picks. Here's the breakdown Don Scagnetti.

Who do y'all have going #1?? The odds on Murray going 1 have gone down but he is still the favorite. I think he will just due to the fact that it's Cliff bro Kingsbury

That pick will be a bust. Not big enough, he will not be durable. About the same as RG3 with less size. If he makes two years, I'll be surprised.

Being from Allen and watching Murray in his high school days I had thought he was special player. Whether he makes it in the NFL only time will tell.
But he got paid today and will be fun to watch for a while.

Cowboys have no worries with Dak as he was 15th ranked QB in the NFL last year, right behind Case Keenum. You can ride that horse to the Super Bowl

Good question Frank. Me and wife bought a place when the only thing on 75 was a DQ. Raised two kids over 19 years. Sold my place for three times the price and retired to the country. Allen schools are top notch. And never saw a DB in a lawn chair in a HS parking lot with a sign claiming they were cheating. Other than Southlake. He beat their arse.

KO, Gig'Em has shown disdain (know he doesn't like the word hate) for Murray - and for apparently people in general under 6' (He is on the record as saying "I don't like short people") - but remember where Murray came from - College Station where he was the #1 overall QB recruit in the nation in 2015, on the heels of the JFF era. For whatever reason Murray and other elite players transferred out of there within a short (pun intended) time-frame.So forgive him for being scorned when it comes to Murray.

Personally i don't think Murray is as good an NFL prospect as Baker, however i think he will be OK. Nobody on the planet throws a better deep ball than Murray. Baker and Mahommes throw a better 10-25 yard pattern, which is where NFL QBs really earn their pay. But for sure Murray has some intangibles. Not sure he will live up to a #1 overall ranking though.

Lock - i saw only a few of his games, but i wasn't impressed. He obviously didn't impress NFL scouts much either as he wasn't selected in the first round.

Kliff sealed his fate with the Murray pick. Should have traded for whatever he could get or picked Bosa. Now he likely has to trade Rosen who will likely end up being a better QB than Murray. Interesting side note on Bosa - he is a great-grandson of Al Capone.

I stand corrected - Big Tuna was the great-grandfather. Makes it even more interesting for me since I went to high school with one of Big Tuna's grand-daughters (do not know if she is Joey's mom).

Thanks for taking up for me Ted while I was away. Yeah I don't like the word hate at all. And I don't hate Murray. He would have stayed in Aggie land had he not demanded to be the starter. Sumlin blew that deal, had 3 #1's at QB and all 3 thought they should start. Murray and the kid from Arizona decided they didn't want to wait their turn so they hooked um. Worked great for Murray not so much for the others. My type of QB are the protypical stand in the pocket guys like Aikman, Brady, Roethlisberger, Manning, Marino, etc. The little guys are ok but you have to build an offense for them and they're style of play. Sooner or later they forget to run out of bounds and some 230 pound backer smashes them like a june bug. Hope the kid has a good career and plays smart. The pro's are bigger, faster and meaner than what he faced in college.

I have no dog in the state of Texas college football fight, but it would appear that Murray was right and Sumlin was way wrong on that.

As with college basketball, how great college players turn out as pros doesnt matter much to me - they were still great college players. And Murray was a great college player. I dont think whatever happens in the NFL for him will take away from that, but I also dont think he will necessarily be a bad pro player due to his size. And I wasnt exactly sure he made the right decision to go to the NFL over MLB. We will all see. Either way, it will be fun to watch how he turns out in the NFL.

Agree with this. He could play until 40 in the NFL (Brees) but more than likely he would have played longer in MLB. Just hope he doesn't end up like RGIII. He'll need to play great through his rookie contract to hit the NFL $$$$$$$$$$ jackpot.

Just saying the nay sayers aren't always right, the same could be said for Wes Welker. It's difficult to measure the size of their heart. And like DH said, no matter what happens in the Pros Kyle Murray will be remembered as one of the greatest college QB's to ever play the game.

I agree that whatever happens in the NFL shouldn't in any way diminish what was accomplished at the collegiate level.
However, Murray didn't play in enough games to be considered one of the greatest.
He did most certainly have one of the greatest seasons.

I dont know , never watched a single down of Central MiddleEast county Florida state. I laugh at the number of folks on here that use all the jargon like they were there scouting the guy in person and NFL experts, especially with some of the more obscure positions no one really pays attention to.

Doug Flutie made the Pro Bowl in 98 and went 10-5 the next year and is also 5'10", so there is some precedent for an undersized mobile Qb succeeding in the NFL.

As far as the Texans draft goes, I think it was pretty solid for what they needed most. 2 versatile O-linemen, 2 solid Db's with some big time speed, a high upside TE that can block, as well as a strong edge rusher in the the first 6 rounds
Go Texans!!!

Cowboys FO made him sign a "work ethic" contract before drafting him. (whatever that is).

I wouldn't read too much into the work ethic contract - Marinelli requires all of his defensive lineman to sign the same contract.

Quote
Marinelli said the contract had nothing to do with Hills poor relationship with his coaches at Central Florida. Its something he requires of all of his defensive linemen.

I do this with every guy from a free agent to a draft pick, just my own copy of it, back and forth, front and back, Marinelli said. It talks about how we play, what I ask of you in practice, day of games, all of it. I am very clear of it. I said to him, If it doesnt fit you, tell me now, because you will not be happy here. I told him to keep it, and he said, Coach I feel great about this. Its just about how you play. Its a lot of different things, but how you carry yourself, how you play in our system. The effort and the want to, every snap. Were unique that way how hard we practice and play. I usually see that on film early with guys. He really plays hard. If you watch his tape, he really hustles. Thats the passion we want in these guys.

After the first three picks I freely admit I have no idea what they were doing....but I trust them drafting right. I don't know what the hell they are going to do with the 27 DL and OL they have now!! Slightly exaggerating.

Re: NFL Draft is upon us - 04/29/19 10:28 PM

You go heavy on the OL and DL in the draft and free agency. So this means you screwed up on # 97 a first rounder ,#52 a 2nd rounder?

He must have shown something to the coaches or they just figured they had too much invested in him to scrap the player.
Might be time for looking at other options if possible with this guy.

Re: NFL Draft is upon us - 04/30/19 03:39 PM

I guess they have faith in Woods and Illoka with Heath backing them up. I still dont understand why they didnt take a safety in the 2nd round. I think Hill is a great player. He had 0 problems with Scott Frost and his staff but wasnt ve y fond of the Heupel staff. Not unusual for college kids when the staff that recruited them leaves.

Yeah, I saw him play a couple of Saturdays and he can score from anywhere on the field with the ball in his hands. I hope to see him get 8-12 touches a game. He can run and catch the ball, RB/Slot type of player. He can replace Cole Beasley easily and carry the ball on top of playing a slot.

Yeah, I like The U draftees but like we said no safety. Guyton the kid from North Texas that played at Allen, I think he played a year with Kyler Murray. I know Westry is a tall DB 63-65 and played in the SEC I think, not sure where?
