Who is still on NFL football strike? - 01/09/19 01:39 PM

I would almost bet not anyone.....theyve gave in to all bad officiating, national anthem differences, holdout controversy, etc, etc.....you know, this divisional round weekend is by far my favorite. Still 4 games with the best 8 out of 32 teams playing. I like it even better than the conf championships or Soooopa. Im staying with my pick for the final matchup, Cowboys-Colts. Am I totally off base? Maybe with my final picks but you gotta believe. Id like to know who is still holding out in watching the funnest pro football weekend of the year.....be honest!

It was incredible all the drama they had this season. It just never ended. Thats an organization that just seems like its always done a good job of handling stuff in house and then this year it was full of more drama than I can remember. Kind of shocking.

Re: Who is still on NFL football strike? - 01/09/19 03:41 PM

I had not watched any games since the Steelers stayed in the tunnel for the anthem (minus 1 guy) at Soldiers field a couple years ago. It rubbed me the wrong way as kneeling did. I tuned in a little to keep an eye on my Bears this year.

Never quit but not that big of a fan during the regular season. That said I love the playoff football and other sports as well when they turn up the intensity with so much on the line. Same with hockey I don't watch any during the season but watch a lot of playoff hockey which is normally great. Baseball I will only watch Rangers but watch quite a bit of post season games. Basketball...well I am pretty much out full time on any basketball.

I tend to strike more when the Cowboys suck. I will not listen to or support any activism in sports whatsoever.
I no longer admire professional athletes in any sport. I do NOT want my children to consider them role models. I want my children to find role models in their own lives, rather than how people portray themselves in media.

I listen to Sirius game broadcasts and sync the tv with my iPhone.
Mostly because I prefer Brad and Babe for the Cowboys games.
But I agree tv broadcasting has wrongly infused broadcasts with things that aren't a necessary or even interesting addition, to their detriment I might add.

This is where I'm at. Seen a couple cowboys games later on this year. Used to watch every game on Thursday/Sunday/Monday. Dak kinda sucks. Cooper is awesome. Zeke is Zeke. Garrett still isn't ever going to win a super bowl.

As for the rest of the NFL, whatever. I only watched a few cowboys games because my wife really wanted to see them. I have no use for people who disrespect the national anthem for a fake issue.

Honest question - where do you draw the line? If openly and repeatedly disrespecting our national anthem for an issue (that stats says doesn't exist) isn't over the line, then what is? Is there a cause they could support or an activity they could undertake that would make you stop watching?

I suppose at some level it depends on how important what you're giving up is. To me, the NFL product has gone so far downhill that it wasn't a huge sacrifice to find other things to do. But if you really love it, then I can see how some political issues would seem trivial.

I guess from my own point of view I do not expect everyone and everything to have to agree with my opinions. I have never really been bothered or felt threatened by differing views. I am focused enough and committed to my own views that others do not have the ability to affect or change my views unless I allow that. I like hearing the other side and I like learning. Does not mean I will agree with them just means I have no issues with others expressing their opinions even if it goes against what I believe.

I put it in perspective and keep it realistic, the NFL is a reflection of society. It is not out there trying to tear down the US. They are not anti American and they are gonna kill the country in any way. Again I keep it in perspective. Its a game, its entertainment, I enjoy watching it since it was a sport I enjoyed playing and I have no issues saying I watch and support it.

As far as my own protesting there are companies I simply choose to not do business with or support. Usually customer service related more than anything else.

Re: Who is still on NFL football strike? - 01/09/19 07:31 PM

I haven't watched any NFL football for the past two seasons.

The main reason is because of the kneeling thing, but I had only seen a small number of games for the 2-3 years previous to the start of that issue. I just got tired of the "look at me" attitude of so many of the players. It's stupid to make a tackle, jump up and beat your chest, when your team is getting their azz kicked. If it's your job to tackle, then tackle. If it's your job to block, then block. If it's your job to catch the ball, then catch it. Etc, etc, etc.

As for the kneeling thing - I agree it's your right to kneel in protest, just do it in a different time and place. Don't disrespect the flag and/or the National Anthem.

That weekend of kneeling was more about Trump telling 32 billionaires and over a thousand millionaires what they were going to do. Players that hadn't kneeled before that day, knelt because of Trump's comments.

Interesting take - thanks for the reply.

Only response I have is to say that I don't believe in any way that I'm going to change the NFL's mind (except that they have paid attention to the protests and the number of protestors have dwindled), and I certainly don't believe everyone has to agree with me, but I have a moral issue with supporting companies that I do believe are sponsoring anti-American viewpoints or actively disrespecting our country or its anthem. That being said, I don't think the vast majority of protestors necessarily agree with Kaep on his extreme pro-Castro, anti-American stuff - they just want police to stop killing black people. While I understand the sentiment, numbers show that a white person stopped by a police officer is more likely to be shot than a minority. So the issue is just another example of people literally believing something that isn't true and disrespecting our anthem because of it...which just kinda sucks.

I never stopped watching, and I liked the NFL this year mainly because of all the drama which I thought made it interesting.
Just when everyone was giving up on the Cowboys they got on that roll right on into the playoffs, and even won their first playoff game.
Just think of all the teams that are sitting at home watching right now, wishing it was them in the playoffs.
Win or lose, I think it's been a worthwhile season, but that's just me!
