Instant Mashed Potatoes - 08/07/18 12:27 AM
I dont think I have ever eaten these. Well maybe grade school lunches and later in life maybe a few visits to a concrete hotel room were I had to pay to leave. But anyway, I made some tonight and I found them to be actually pretty good! Cheap as dirt, just add water, spices and warm! It took me like 3 minutes to make a good sized bowl of mashed potatoes! Whoever invented this should have received some kind of humanitarian award.

Youre not optimizing the whole imitation food experience. Next time try mixing up a batch of fake milk made from powdered milk to use instead of just water.

I like them from time to time. Some meals just have to have fake potatoes.
The way I fix them for people who don't like instant mashed potatoes is to add cooked (microwaved) roughly mashed potato (frozen french fries work also). No one has caught me yet for using fake potatoes.

Re: Instant Mashed Potatoes - 08/07/18 05:25 PM
Just a follow-up on this one. I brought the left overs for lunch at work today. And actually I think the potatoes are even better as leftovers! I also learned that the ones I bought only had two big serving bags in the box. Each one was way too much for me. I'm going to look for either the kind you can measure out the serving size yourself or one that comes with individual little single serving packets.
And I just had to throw in this very poor and tasteless joke...What did pimp say when he was asked for the whereabouts of one of his workers named Ida..."Idahoan"!

When my wife worked for a food service company, Ben E Kieth or Sysco, I don't remember, anyways, she came home with a huge box of instant mashed potatoes of all brands and flavors. Some were okay, some were terrible. She makes legit mashed potatoes with butter, sour cream, cheese, milk, garlic.

If you want mashed taters but don't have an hour to peel, boil and whip fresh ones, these are a good substitute. We eat them just cause they're so quick to make. I don't like spending an hour cooking a side during the week.

I use chicken stock instead of water. We buy those Idahoan instant mashed potatoes by the case at Costco. Cover them with grated Parmesan cheese and serve.

I'll time it for you. Couple of minutes to wash and chop 4 or 5 of potatoes. 10 minutes to boil. Couple of minutes to mash and add stuff. Not sure how it's hard to believe one could mash potatoes in about 15 minutes. Maybe 20.

Why would you peel a potato that you are going to mash up? Hell, I dont even wash them before I boil them. Cant afford to go losing all the trace minerals. Plus the skin is delicious in mashed potatoes.
