My 2011 get 15-16 everyday. Even when it pulled my Ranger it only dropped a mile or so. You need to have that thing checked. Best truck I have ever owned.

I drove one unloaded from Fort Worth to Laredo doing the speed limit and got 13mpg hand calculated on the three tanks it took to get there.

Thanks for dropping that turd of an observation. Comparable to other trucks I've owned or currently own, this tundra is not worth all the hype you give it.

I had a 77 F100 back in the day. loved that truck it got 11 MPG whether you were pulling a load or cruising for BFN's on Saturday night.

Just wait until that EcoTurd is in the shop most of its life. I have never owned a Tundra, but do like them.

I have owned 3 Tundras since 2000 and none of them were stellar fuel economy performers, but that was not the reason I bought them. I knew they were a little thirsty. Of the 3 I have owned, not one of them has ever been back to the dealer except to be traded in. Reliability is more important to me than a few mpg. Everyone has to decide what is right for them.

Musta been pulling a trailer loaded with fords and chevys. No one in their right mind buys a Tundra for mpg. You buy one cause you know it�s gonna last. I bought one last August and it�s hands down the best truck I�ve ever owned, and I�ve had all of them. I don�t know why I waited as long as I did to buy one.

Tundra is coming out with a 3/4 ton option and larger engine that is supposed to get improved fuel economy.

What year model ? I have a 2018 and the instrument panel does not look like that.

Oh, I got 9MPG to Lake Dardanelle(in Arkansas) and back. Without towing 13-14.5mpg

If my tundra gets higher than 13mpg I find the nearest shuttle to tow. I like to stay around 11.

I�ve found the trick in mine is to accelerate and not let it get over 2000 rpms. It�s amazing the difference it makes.

Usually I don�t get care and drive the [censored] out of it but when I see numbers like that on the gauge I recalibrate my foot for a few tanks.

Wanted one. Drove one. 5.8 v8 with all the goodies. Best looking truck I've seen in a long time. The
salesman kept up a mantra the whole time I was test driving it. (I assure you it will do better on the highway.)

5.9 is the best I saw in a half hour test drive. Made me sick.

Still looking. The GMC's are looking better all the time.

I usually drive with cruise control and get 16mpg.

Towing is usually 8 or 9mpg.

I had a 98 dodge 4x4 on 38�s in high school that better gas mileage than that.

One of the reasons the Toyotas don't get better fuel mileage is because they have a 4.32 gear ratio rear end. Most GM trucks come with a 3.42 gear ratio. The rear end is why the Toyota's have so much acceleration and pulling power. If the Tundra's were geared higher(lower ratio) like the GM's they would do much better on mileage.

I get 8mpg, and it�s a 4 speed. No thanks on Tundra.

If you compare the overall ratios including the gearing in the transmission the tundra has a "slightly" lower gear ratio giving it a mechanical advantage, but it is not nearly as big as the difference from a 4.3 to a 3.42 rear end, they are actually very close.

The tundra is a fuel burning machine! that is why it runs better... or used to, its not at the top of the performance mountain anymore and hasn't been for some time.

It's fast and it holds it's value. Good 4x4 for hunting. My old 2011 got me $23000 with 140000 miles and my 2015 is worth $31000 with 40000 miles. I paid $36500 out the door with a 100k bumper to bumper Toyota warranty. I run it like a molested monkey and get 12.5 in town. I have never had an issue with Tundras but I did spend $14000 in one year on my F250 with the 6.0 and 120000 miles. I will take the Tundra.

With a Tundra with the 5.7L V-8 it's really like a 3/4 ton truck. Fuel mileage is not the point of that truck, towing is. If you are looking for fuel mileage, look elsewhere. I'm about to ditch my Tundra for a Taco, but my driving habits have changed dramatically recently and I don't need it to tow as much anymore. Just the occasional lake trip and the Taco is more than capable of that. My Tundra may get 14-15 MPG on the highway doing 65 on cruise. It is terrible.

I had a Tacoma once. It was a great truck but the MPG wasn�t very good so don�t expect much difference.

I really appreciate what Toyota does for Bass fishing. They make a great meat and potatoes truck. But Ford and Chevy halftons have higher payload, higher towing, higher horsepower and way better mpgs.

I rarely get into these but will chime in briefly.

These manufacturers stats are not all in the same truck. The motor that has more hp doesn�t have better economy. The truck with higher payload doesn�t have better ride. It�s all a give and take. When Ford and GM Use 3-4 different motors and as many rear end ratios to make those claims, it�s really confuses folks. It�s like every claim has an asterisk by it and it�s only true with a particular combination.

Toyota makes 2 v8 engines. Each comes with one rear end option. 4.3 in the baby motor and 4.1 in the 5.7.

Many dont realize it, but you can park 2 identical trucks next to each other. Same motor, transmission and rear end. One is 4x4 and the other 4x2. The 4 wheel drive truck will have less stated towing capacity. The gross Combined weight capacity can�t be exceeded so the Extra curb weight of the 4x4 truck is subtracted from the towing capacity.

In the end, we all drive what we like and spend our money our way.

Sold my 2010 2WD for 13500, had 214,000 miles.

My new one gets 17 mpg, about the same as the old one.

Here is how complicated towing capacities can be. Scroll down this chart. You�ll see that an F150 can either tow 5000 lbs or 12000 lbs. Then there is that little section regarding your receiver hitch that states it has a 5000 capacity. So to pull over 5000 lbs you need a weight distribution hitch, per Ford. (Most are the same, just easily found these specs)

No one ever says that when they brag about their truck does this or that. The highest payloads are in a regular cab long bed. Who drives on of those!?

That is not real. I get 9-10 towing boat at 75 mph. Without boat I get 17-18 at 75 mph. Stop and go traffic along with heavy acceleration kills the Tundra MPGs. It looks like someone turned on the Tow/Haul and turned the nannies off and proceeded to see how low the MPGs would go.

I had a 2013 Tacoma and the difference was 3 MPG except towing then it was a dead heat. My 2013 towed well. 4700lb Bay Boat 70-75 mph from Lafayette to Dallas and never a problem power wise. Now if I had had 25-30 headwind that would be a different story.

Tow/Haul mode doesn't reduce fuel economy at cruising speed. All's it does is change the shift points to keep it in the power band longer and downshifts sooner.

My owners manual says recommended for towing heavy loads essentially. I don�t know if Tundras are the same but if your just towing a bass boat I�d leave it off.

While I appreciate your past history, I find it hard to believe that a 5.7L V-8 gets basically the same MPG as a 4.0 v6

I have a four cylinder at hwy speeds not towing a load and get 18 mpg. 6.2L

I had an 06 Tacoma with the V6 and traded it for my current 09 Crew Cab 5.3 Chevy. The Chevy gets better gas mileage than the Tacoma did. It was a great truck, and I like yota products, but the MPG for a V6 was terrible. However, if I wanted good MPG I wouldn�t buy a truck.

That�s the conundrum I�m in. Need to tow the boat but also have started diving a ton of miles for work. 35-40k a year.

Driving habits are the biggest thing. You want a truck and get good fuel mileage? You have about 4 options, an ecodiesel, a f150 powerstroke(when available), a Colorado/canyon diesel, or a GM/Chevy 1500 diesel (when avaialable).

I have an ecodiesel 30+ mpg hwy, 28 commuting, avg 16-17 towing boat and 14-15 towing a 30 ft TT. If you have a lead foot you can subtract a little from all of those.

when towing 5000 lbs they do. I actually thought the Tundra would do a little better than the Tacoma when towing but it does not. Like I said on the hwy with NO traffic the difference is right at 3-3.5. Get in to traffic and the 5.7 sucks gas. It does not do good at all idling. Of course no motor gets good MPGs idling but the 5.7 has to be the one of the worst I have driven.

you need to run the numbers to calculate the payback for the diesel. Figure in the price difference of fuel, maintenance, initial cost difference and the resale value of the truck. When I have done it the payback is too far out there for me especially since I did not need a diesel.

I wouldn't look at the current Tundra. IMO you should wait and see what the next remodel looks like.

I had one for about a year before I had enough. I have a hard time believing anyone saying they are getting 15+. I calculated mine at the pump not by what the truck said. I never got better than 12mpg. Towing I got between 7-9 depending on wind. The truck drove great but the small fuel tank and MPG was to much for me. Back in a diesel and don�t plan to go back to gas anytime soon.

small fuel tank indicates you got the smaller v8. With the 5.7 the 38 gallon tank is standard equipment.

Buda's Tundra has a 20 gal tank with the 5.7.

The 38 gal tank is what I�ve noticed on all I�ve looked at today.

I think they have changed it on the newest models. If i'm gonna drive a gas hog it better have a huge gas tank. Don't get me wrong though, it will jerk the axles out from under a bassboat.

Since the redesign of the Tundra in 07, the standard gas tank has been 26.4 gal with an auxiliary option that raises that to 38 gal.

Not in 2011.. I have the 5.7L V-8 BEAST with a 20 gal tank and get 300 miles out of a tank. That drops to about 220 - 230 towing. I didnt buy it for fuel mileage, this truck tows like a 7.3 Power Stroke and stops just as good if not better. They are super roomy inside, even for a fat boy. She likes to get up and go thats for sure, a little pedal is all it takes.

I know I dont have 26.4, with the gauge on E I've never been able to pack more than 20.5... hard to imagine there being another 5 gallons after the fuel light came on and I ran it down to the E.

Just because the guage says empty and you never put more than 20 gallons in doesn't mean you have a 20 gallon tank. By that login our Duramax has a 17 gallon tank, yours like ours is just out of calibration when you fill up you have 6 gallons left. Oh and lol on the it tows like a 7.3 too.

Laugh all you want bro, I had a 99 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel for 10 years when I bought the Tundra. I am speaking from personal experience with both trucks, have you done extensive towing with both to be able to compare them? I'm not talking about 1 trip, I'm talking about years in both vehicles towing 2-3 days a week. Other than fuel mileage there really isnt much difference at all.

You may be right about the gas tank, I'm darn sure not going to try it, after the fuel light comes on and it then bottoms out on E is as far as I'm gonna take it!

I read some message boards awhile back and some said that most cars/trucks fuel light comes on w 3 gallons lefts. The Tundra supposedly comes on w 6 gallons left.

I've never put over 31 in my 2017 and it supposedly has 38. I've always been told the fuel lubricates and cools the fuel pump, so they make sure there is always some left when you hit EMPTY

A 99 3/4 ton barely had a tow rating more then modern 1/2 tons.

Tundras are in the dark ages on fuel mileage. They live on the myth that they last longer.

Guessed wrong. Driven the last 3 trucks I have owned 180k each with almost no issues. One is still going and I don't know how many miles is on it. I know it was about 9 years ago I got rid of it. Probably has 350K plus. No clue where the other two went or what happened to them. I just always want a new one about every 5 or 6 years.
