He will win the time on camera sweepstakes regardless of how well he plays. Too many golf people with a vested interest in him doing well and keeping the Tiger TV ratings up.

He hasnt played in three years. Rankings are based on recent play. He hasnt played in many events yet.

Im not saying he will win this one, or even anything this year, but being ranked 40 early in his first season back isnt really an indicator.

A lot of guys are struggling today, even the ones that did well yesterday.
Posted By: Fishspanker

Re: Tiger at the Masters - 04/08/18 12:16 AM

Closer to the bottom of those making the cut than the top. Yet to shoot a subpar round. The 10:1 odds on him to win were ridiculous. But the odds reflect where the money is bet not the likelyhood that he would win. The once dominant player is just average on the tour now. Regardless of how many people want him to return to his top form he isn't scaring anyone these days. Injuries, age and loss of mental dominance isn't going to be overcome.

He is ~5 shots out of the top 20. Not a lot of pressure on him tomorrow. He should be able to shoot a good score. We will see what he does. Best for him right now would be a top 20 finish. Probably needs to shoot 67 or 68 to get there.

Re: Tiger at the Masters - 04/08/18 12:31 AM

The young guys have this now and aren't afraid of Tiger or Phil anymore. Tiger may pull a miracle win at some other tournament, but I don't think the young guys are going to let him win a major. He has just been gone too long. Really makes you think, though, what might have been for Tiger.

Re: Tiger at the Masters - 04/08/18 12:44 PM

No matter what character Tiger has displayed in the past, for him to play all 4 days at Augusta is just one more huge shot in the arm for golf and for the Masters event. I, for one, never agreed of his actions off the course and he has deserved every bit of his downfall, but to see him try and make another run at stardom has been nothing less of sheer excitement, and no, I wouldn't have his baby. I cannot wait to watch his play, today. I will say he has his best today and will move up from 40th to 25th place. Ends the tournament with an even par....GO TIGER!!

Meh, I never gave a carp about his character or personal life, he is a shadow of his former golfer self, the field grew stronger while he faded and I don't believe he can catch back up, he may win a tourney again, but his days of winning majors is over

Re: Tiger at the Masters - 04/08/18 02:04 PM

Tigers best round of the tournament was even par on a day where the leaders all shot mid-60s.

The 10:1 odds were insane. Hasnt won a major in a decade.

Ok.....$500. All he needs to do is win one more major in his career. I'll send you my email address and you can just send the money via PayPal.

Pay attention. Read my last post. I said he would finish 25th. That's pretty close. I said he would finish even par. That's pretty close, too.

$500 is on the line. PM me your name and phone number and I'll do the same.

Why not? He has the most victory's and majors of anyone in the field. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls off another major victory.

I saw yesterday that he has won over $170 million in his career (just in prize money), the most by anyone. That kind of blew me away.

Re: Tiger at the Masters - 04/09/18 03:48 PM

If he doesn't go back to saying his back hurts, I think he will win a regular tour event this year. If he stays healthy he will win another major eventually.

Re: Tiger at the Masters - 04/09/18 05:49 PM

It makes me wonder what might have been. Tiger lost nearly 10 years of prime career years dealing with self created bs. If he had kept his head on straight and his zipper zipped, every meaningful record in the PGA would be Tigers by along shot. He had a great career, but......and I dont believe a major is in Tigers future. Just too many good younger golfers with new ones we have not even heard of yet.
Posted By: lconn4

Re: Tiger at the Masters - 04/09/18 06:02 PM

What's Tiger Woods' status for the majors?

Masters: As a past winner (actually, four times), he can play pretty much for life.
U.S. Open: Woods is exempt this year as the 2008 winner, which earns him a 10-year exemption through 2018.
Open Championship: Open champions can play until they're 60 without problem.
PGA Championship: PGA champions can play pretty much forever.

-----------------------

Tiger is 42, Jack was 46 when he won his last major. I think Tiger will play at least 4 more years if he believes he is improving. That's 15 more shots at majors unless he continues to play longer.

I don't agree with that 100%. Me and many others stated 15-20 years ago that Tiger's dominance was based more on athleticism than the traditional golfer, and thus his career was less likely to follow the traditional golf path (peak in the mid/late 30s) and he was much more likely to peak earlier in his career and struggle later.

Now nobody could have foreseen his personal issues, but what sidetracked Tiger has been a myriad of injuries created by the forces that his swing during his younger days put on his body. Many people within the golfing community had a pretty good idea of how some of this was going to turn out.

I wouldn't go so far to say a no name, he made a name for himself as a solid golfer on the verge and in the Ryder Cup. Certainly not a star but some considered an up and comer. Now, he had made a name for himself in terms of being a jerk and getting kicked off he Georgia team then getting suspended at August State for possible cheating.

I'll concede that a no-name wins it every now and then, but more often than not the big names come out on top at the Masters (which is one of the things that makes it great). List of Masters winners since 1992:

1992 - Couples
1993 - Langer
1994 - Olazabal
1995 - Crenshaw
1996 - Faldo
1997 - Tiger
1998 - O'Meara
1999 - Olazabal
2000 - Singh
2001 - Tiger
2002 - Tiger
2003 - Weir
2004 - Mickelson
2005 - Tiger
2006 - Mickelson
2007 - Zach Johnson
2008 - Immelman
2009 - Cabrera
2010 - Mickelson
2011 - Schwartzel
2012 - Watson
2013 - Scott
2014 - Watson
2015 - Spieth
2016 - Willet
2017 - Sergio

Only a few of those would have been considered no-names at Reed's level (known to serious golf fans, but not to casual fans). Maybe Immelman, Schwartzel for sure, Willett for sure, and possibly Zach Johnson and possibly Weir. But the other 20 or so were top names in the sport. And Weir, Johnson, and Immelman (and Reed) weren't far from being in that category. Reed had the 18th best odds according to the other TFF thread, so it wasn't like he was a no-name to golf fans. But to casual fans, sure.

Reed was 24th in OWGR at the start of the tourney. He has had great success in the last two Ryder cups.

Only a no name to the most casual golf fan.

Brentley Romine and Kevin Casey from Golfweek picked him to win. I can look up more if you need more feet to eat.

I picked him to have a good chance to win. Not on this forum but I had Speith, Thomas and Reed to win.

Pay attention. Read my last post. I said he would finish 25th. That's pretty close. I said he would finish even par. That's pretty close, too.

$500 is on the line. PM me your name and phone number and I'll do the same.

Bet is on!

Well, what did you buy with your $500 Okie?

Meh, I never gave a carp about his character or personal life, he is a shadow of his former golfer self, the field grew stronger while he faded and I don't believe he can catch back up, he may win a tourney again, but his days of winning majors is over

Not sure why your spelling like that, but currently he sits in 32nd place, wouldn't call that missing it by much, and ya I'll gladly make a wager next major grin

I think they went down to a 100.00.
