How to keep gauges from rusting on kayak - 08/11/17 12:22 AM

I took some waves at the coast a couple weeks ago and several gauges and my fish finder plug were rusted. Can anything be used to prevent? Or just part of fishing salt water.

I think a good and thorough rinsing afterward is probably the best option there is. Salt is tough on gear.

Dielectric grease is your boating friend

The salt is corrosive all by itself but when ya add dc juice to it it really speeds up the corrosion. There r lots of products that will help. Few r designed for saltwater use though. Petroleum jelly, wD40, grease etc are a few u might already have at home. Most kayak fasteners are stainless and plastic for this very reason. If yours arnt ya might swap em out asap. Definitely grease those connectors with some kinda goop and remember to disconnect your juice as soon as
your not using it anymore. Saltwater anti corrosion goop is usually messy

Thanks. The worst area was my plug on my fishfinder. It corroded horribly after I took a small wave.
