Upper Brazos 7/22 Report - 07/24/17 07:42 PM

Group of 14 of us took off in 5 canoes, and 4 kayaks around 10:30am from 16 bridge. We took our time with lots of stopping, and farting around, we also took the left where it splits around mile 9 and had to back track. Moving time was 7:27 hours, time on the water was 11:41 and the entire trip was 26:04. Didn't have to drag much at all except around mile 17/18.

Like zero percent chance of rain the entire weekend, some time probably around 4pm we start noticing big clouds building above us, and joking say, wouldn't it be something if it started raining. Well, it did, and it came down just like on Forrest Gump. First time I've ever been caught on my kayak in a storm, it wasn't terrible but made for the remainder of the evening to be at about 99.9% humidity. Lots of steam/fog whatever coming off the water. You couldn't stop sweating.

The fishing was pretty much lights out, the entire stretch from 16 to 4. I took one pole, a big tray of various crankbaits, and probably 5 bags of worms. I didn't try any crankbaits, but 1 in our group did and did catch fish with it, but eventually switched to a soft plastic. All my fish were caught on white super flukes with blue tails, and tan lizards with chart. tails. Wore'em out. There was about a 100 yard stretch we caught fish/had bites every cast. One spot we pulled out probably a 3lb, and a 4lb back to back. All the other fish were in the sub 2lb range. All largemouth.

Night time bowfisherman were out in their airboats. Nothing against that what so ever, but the next morning we came across where a harvest was dumped, kind of disappointed to see that on the big rocky bank somewhat across from Worth Ranch. There were a bunch of different boats going up and down the river through the night, had we not been cutting loose pretty hard it might've been annoying.

It was a super fun trip, nobody got injured, tempers didin't get too high, and I think besides the two who dumped their canoe and lost their cell phones, everyone pretty much had a good time and would do it again. With that, if anyone happens to hear or heard of an iphone 7+ floating down the river, (One went to the bottom) I know who it belongs to.

Great report! Sucks about the bow fisherman part. I think I will change my mind about buying that ranch that is for sale across from the Worth Ranch now. Oh, and I still haven't won the mega million yet so....
