Picked up a Ascend 128T on accident.. Now what? Input? - 07/06/17 11:54 PM

Waiting to pick up a motor for my Ranger and I need to fish. Buddy of mine hooked up a deal on a 128T and I've committed to buying it.

Didn't plan on taking up kayak fishing and here we are. Steer me in a good direction!
I want to make it as enjoyable and user friendly as possible without going plum crazy with it.
What I'll for sure be rigging up
-HB Helix 7.
What mounts, transducer mounts and battery options are recommended?
-Anchor or stake out pole
Which one would be better? and how should I rig it up?
-rod and tackle organization (5 or 6 rods, a few plano boxes of tackle and an assortment of soft plastics would be ideal to have)
-Anyone ever rigged up any kind of shade or anything?
I definitely want to figure out how to get a trolling motor on it. Any recommendations for that?

Besides that, I have no clue besides a PFD, paddle and such.
What should I have? what would you not be without in a Kayak?

Thanks

Our very own Bullet Catcher has a youtube channel with a great rod holder set up. Check it out here:

I'm in the process of building one myself. Youtube is full of great ideas.

There are plenty of options out there. Check with Bass Pro they will have rod holders and such.
Also there are after market rails and rod holders made by Ram mounts that take just a little imagination on your part.
As for shade, you can rig up a golf umbrella but kayaks or notoriously hard to fish in the wind, and it takes some getting used to in order to make it work for you.
An Anchor trolley should be on the top of your list in accessories since it will help you manage the wind.
Instead of shade such as umbrellas most kayakers use a broad brimmed hat and a buff to wear over the face, long sleeves and gloves for total UV protection.
In a kayak you sit pretty much at water level and just the reflection off the water can be brutal on the skin.
Before you install anything though, go fishing with the kayak in bare bones and try to figure out where you want rod holders mounted that will be out of the way when you paddle. You will get a feel for it better than just randomly installing accessories just because someone else has them installed there.
Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

Hey thank you for that Jimbo.
Definitely good advice. I did order a transducer mount and the battery/sonar mount from Yakattack. I'll pick up a little anchor and I'll be taking it out once I make it home.

Thank you for your service by the way.
