That's a great idea! I wonder if the magnet really has any negative effects on the electronics. I have no clue but this is a great idea! thumb

I was also curious about that. Only potential problem I was concerned with is the wire catching on something.

I was ready to order one the other day but they were a bit pricey for me to hit the submit button -- $86 plus $16 S&H -- for a couple of magnets and some brackets. I have a ram mount so spending over $100 to replace what I already have just seemed like too much. It does seem like a pretty elegant and easy to use solution though. Would like to hear some reviews from anyone who gets one.

Changed gears and decided to go with - http://shop.mariner-sails.com/YakAttack-...A-RMS-1046.htm.
If I ever broke down and purchased one of those magnetics, I would probably immediately knock it off (copy it) in machined 6061 ... maybe I'm Chinese at heart?

That's a great idea and super easy to make one with just very limited mechanical skills.
Why more folks haven't thought of that?
