Valentines Day Bull Reds High Island "Cell Tower" - 02/15/15 07:05 PM

With this trip my total fish caught count FINALLY exceeded my total trip count! Plus I didn't even have to have someone else bait my hook this time!!! laugh

The launch

My first Valentines Day fish. From this angle, it kind of looks like it has hearts on it.

Number two coming up!!

A little "smoke on the water".

Fish 3. I'm thinking this one give me all kinds of fits. My two lines got tangled first, then he spun me around 180* and added my anchor line into the mix. At one point of trying to untangle the mess, I lost my balance and thought I was gonna be fighting the fish in the water.

Number 4 was hooked deep. frown but swam off strong...

Fish 5

Mythman and I were on our way in but bfail said he was going to give it 15 more min as he just put on a fresh bait. I no sooner paddled 10yds back when he had "FISH ON"!! so I paddled to him and got a couple of pics (I'll let him post them).

Going fishing on Valentines Day turned out to be a win-win-win day for me. Even go the "go ahead" to get another rod/reel combo!! laugh What a great day.

Nice! We actually had a short conversation about planning a salt water trip this year for the bull reds.

Is there a certain time of the year when it prime time for the reds? TIA!

Good lord!

I notice most if not all salt water yakkers do not use a FF, how do you go about knowing where to fish?

Will definitely be making a trip or two this year. As it sits, I have 2 other guys interested. Not sure if we could wait till Sept though! Possibly a trip in May or June and a trip in Sept.

So far I think everyone that I've been out there has had a fish finder but here's how its been going...

When you get around your planned launch point, look for bait busting the surface and/or birds working. If you see that try to get to it!! If not, we just can out at different depths till we find what depth the fish are hanging out at the time. Then everyone just moves to that depth. They dont mind fishing close together either. Just stay far enough away lines don't get tangled it you have a good run.

Keep an eye on the BTB board on TKF and join them when they have a trip planned. Mike aka "Mythman" is a pleasure to fish with and will give you the run down.
