San Antonio / Guadalupe recommendations?

San Antonio / Guadalupe recommendations? - 02/11/15 08:38 PM

I'm headed to San Antonio with the yaks the first part of April and trying to decide were to fish. I will be in the north part of San Antonio and I've always wanted to fish the Guad below canyon so I will probably give that a shot. Any other places I should try to fit in? I know the access options on the Guad but if anyone has any specific preferences I am all ears.

You could also try Lake Dunlap and launch there at the free launch under the bridge under I35 in New Braunfels.
If you are in north SA you could head on up I10 to Boerne city lake also. It's a no gas powered engine lake, and is popular with kayakers.

Thanks. Good suggestions. I thought about both of those. Access would definitely be a lot easier.

Lake Dunlap during the month of April is very Kayak friendly. The ramp is right under IH 35 in New Braunfels. Lots of BIG bass and cats in that lake. You can also fish the Comal River which in right in the City of New Braunfels. Great Kayak place. New Braunfles is a great place to fish. Also has some super good restaurants. You need to try the Union Street Station. They are open from 6am till 3pm. Closed Mondays.

Thanks banker! I think I'm leaning towards Dunlap but not taking the Guadalupe off the list. I appreciate the suggestion. Need to hook one of those big rios and scratch it off the bucket list.

Mid April up until late October are good times to catch a Rio down here! There are some some HUGE ones in both Dunlap and the Comal River! Great fighters on ultra light tackle! They also fight hard on regular tackle.
