Slayer 14.5 or slayer propel 13 - 01/31/15 12:23 AM

Would either of these kayaks be good for btb fishing? Just trying to decide if these should be demo along with a raptor, 135, pa14 and any others that would be decent btb.

I would go with the Propel Slayer over the regular Slayer, for the simple fact that the Propel Slayer is a much nicer paddling kayak than the regular Slayer. A lot of the BTB would balk at the Slayer in general because there's no way to stow rods inside the hull like the other kayaks you mentioned.

Where do you plan on BTBing?

Never thought the Propel would be nicer paddling kayak than the regular Slayer.

I rented one once but didn't paddle it much lol!

For btb I was thinking a live well in back with four rods, a box of jigs, a box with cranks and top water baits, some hooks weights and misc. in pockets of live vest and a large fish cooler bag on the nose. I know there is more gear but not a whole lot and bass fishing there is plenty of room with boxes under and around the seat. I just don't know if either boat is a decent boat for going through the breakers and stable enough for out in the ocean. I do not know we're in the gulf I would fish just some were between Galveston and CC

Of those 2, I would have to pick the propel. As Neumie noted, the 14.5 has no in-hull storage. The 13' size is a much more manageable all-around size IMO. As much as I liked the layout of the 14.5, it is not a very good choice for any long-distance paddling. If you are thinking about a slayer propel, you may want to demo a hobie outback (similar in size and layout) or even a revo 13 (faster but more cramped) for comparison. Many note that many BTB'ers don't find the PA to be that great in the surf as well as trailing seas but is no doubt one of the more stable platforms out there otherwise. GL, keep asking questions and demo.
