Beavers Bend

Headed up to Broken Bow first week of June for a week, any tips on good kayak fishing there.
I would like to catch some smallmouth and trout.

Ive fished up there quite a bit, but all before I got a kayak.

Definitely zone 3, or possibly right near the fly shop where they rent boats. Are you fly fishing or spin fishing?

With a full week there you'll have a chance to fish a lot of water. From what I heard from locals when I was there a while back: behind the dam for trout, the lake side area near dam for smallmouth, the northern end of lake for largemouths, spots scattered almost anywhere. Thats one beautiful lake.

There are lots of areas you can fish up there.
The best area for kayak fishing for trout is shown on the map I have attached.

We caught alot of rainbows there even though we were not focusing on them.
We also caught Large Mouth, Smallies and even a Pickerel.
As far as I know you cannot kayak much of the river in the state park.
Be sure to check because each zone has it own regulations.
The rules can be quite confusing and may differ depending on who you ask.

The best bass fishing I have had on the river it would have to be between the rereg dam and hwy 70 take out.

The owner rode with me to the launch and then he drove my truck back to the bridge and locked my spare keys in my truck.
This area is packed with weekend warrior paddlers on the weekends but I still had great fishing back in the rocks were the paddlers did not go.

I have also fished from the hwy launch to the take out about 7 miles down.
I had a little luck but I probably will not go back there. Alot of flat water paddling.

If you are up for some fun and they have had a little rain then I would suggest the Upper Mtn fork.
If it has had a little rain then you can put in at Eagle Creek and take out at the Narrows low water crossing.
This section is not easy if the water is low and is not recommended if the water is too high.
I would say it needs to be between 200cfs and 400cfs for safe and good fishing.
It can be very trick with the rocks and drops. This is not recommended for inexperienced paddlers.
I have caught many Kentucky bass in this section.
When the water is too low I hike and fish alot of this section.

He is the UN-official mayor of the river and did well over 100 runs of the lower last year.

If you plan on fishing the arrowed locations get there early....weekend traffic gets thick with the rentals.

Being June it might be busy even during the week.

Also...if you are up for an adventure then you should think about fishing the Glover River.
It is a beautiful river not too many miles west of the Mountain Fork.
It would be best to use a guide on this river though.

We were there last weekend and the lake was 12' above full pool. Both generators were running the entire time we were there, and the flow is about 7300 cfs. Which means you can't fish the river below the rereg dam. Far too dangerous. We put in at J Barlow's take out spot and paddled up to the lodge, which is just beyond halfway around. There are bluffs just past the lodge, and we always catch at least a few trout there. Between the lodge and the takeout, we caught trout and bass, and I caught 1 walleye. We don't typically go much beyond the lodge, because it gets shallow, and we would rather fish than portage.

Check the link below for flows in the river. Mac at Ambush can tell you what is going on as well as anyone. The highest flow I've ever paddled the river below the rereg dam is about 3600 cfs. It was very tricky in places, and the chute was impossible to navigate successfully.

Fishing below the HWY 70 bridge to the take out for wild goose is excellent too. Float that stretch two weekends a year and always catch plenty to eat. Flat water is a non issue for us since we pretty well fish the entire stretch and rarely paddle from spot to spot.
