As soon as I saw the pics I instantly thought "UFO" and I haven't even had a beer yet. I guess I had better get started. Looks nice though, I bet it'll really attract the bait at night. Good luck with the aliens.

I would be interested in seeing some daylight pics of the lights and your install.

Re: Finished Finally! - 06/12/13 01:00 PM

Can you add a picture of how you attached the lights to the wiring while keeping it waterproof?

I assume you did a little soldering, but how did you create a dry seal?

Re: Finished Finally! - 06/12/13 01:57 PM

Aero, I've had good luck with soldering (or even just wire twist) and then using liquid electrical tape to form the seal. I've used this on trailers with good success. If you want something less permanent, you can use the waterproof twist or push-in nuts - the kind with dielectric silicone.

Likewise, you need to ensure you use waterproof switches/toggles. And a waterproof fuse.

Thanks for the tips FishAll!

So would it work to just twist the wires, tape them down with electical tape, and then go over them with the liquid electrical tape?

Re: Finished Finally! - 06/12/13 03:00 PM

No electrical tape......just twist well (twist and fold ends over each other) and liquid tape over them. It dries hard - I usually put on a couple layers letting dry between each. If you have a solder gun, I would highly suggest soldering before the liquid.

Re: Finished Finally! - 06/12/13 03:04 PM

How do you keep the wires away from each other if you are just twisting?

Re: Finished Finally! - 06/12/13 03:08 PM

You twist each pair of wires and coat them - that provides the insulation plus some amount of mechanical connection. Maybe I don't understand your question.

Re: Finished Finally! - 06/12/13 03:14 PM

ok, i get it now. Coat each wire individually

correctamundo. And if you want to clean up the harness, you can either then using normal electrical tape to bind them all together or wiring loom or other.
