Photos of your kayak setup?

Photos of your kayak setup? - 07/05/11 11:25 PM

I've been made aware that I will be receiving a kayak for my almost 60th birthday this month, and I haven't a clue how to set it up for fishing.

Have no idea what model I'll be the proud new owner of either.

I'm very excited to join your ranks, but really need guidance.

Would you all mind helping out the newbie with some photos of what you have done to customize your rides?

Thanks a bunch!

If you plan on doing some fishing you might want to get a create like this.

It will be for fishing exclusively. Thanks, Robbie!

That's cool Robbie. What do y'all use for lights and how do you hook em up. Thinking about getting a yak, really 2. 1 for me fishing and 1 for grand-daughter for just pleasure. Do the fishing yaks come with plug or something to stick an 360* light into and then run to a motorcycle battery(looked like one could fit in the crate) or do those 2-D portable units suffice for a whole night thing? Probably dumb questions but I have never owned anything but outboard boats. Thanks.

Duh, LOL LOL, that's all I'd need is to turn over and spill battery acid all over my drowned butt. Scratch that question, LOL.

There are 12v (gel cell) set ups that are small in size and provide the power that you need. Most will fit inside the yak and you just drill a small hole for the cables.

You can build a basic 360 light with just an LED bulb and some PVC.

My friend "Mr. Know it All" turned me on to this light. I stick it into a 4ft pvc behind me in the center rod holder.

That create isn't mine but really like it. I have one similar but out a lid on mine in the case I turtle.

The boat next to his is mine. Notice that I didn't have a Whataburger cup. He caught 5x the fish I caught. Makes me wonder...

Thanks guys!

After reading about that poor guy on Eagle Mountain that died when a motor boat ran over him in his kayak at night, the LED stick looks like a mandatory addition.

Well it is the law. It is bad that it happened but apparently only one of the yakers had a light.

Love the stabilizers, Alderson! Do they retract?
Posted By: JAlderson

Re: Photos of your kayak setup? - 07/14/11 09:08 PM

They don't retract but I made pins in them so that I can take them both off and on when I want to off the water. When I am on the water I just flip them up when they arent needed or when I want less drag for the Bassyak. They work great though and were way cheaper than any other options on the market right now. This setup allows me to either Fly Fishing very easily, sight fish or flip jigs. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for stable fishing.
